Harder things to do, or long term objectives?

Recommended Posts

So, I've played quite a bit of DS and DST with a few friends recently, and I consider myself to be at least a decent player to the point that just surviving is pretty easy, but I'm not sure what to do, and we get bored, especially in winter.

What kind of things are there to aim for in DST as a long term objective, or something to do that isn't necessarily just being self-sustaining, because I can be self sustaining for my whole group by day 15 usually.

Sorry if this exists, but I couldn't find any threads about something like this.

Well, smallbirds are a option if you can play without leaving the server until it is fully grown. They bug out if you are its parent and you leave.

You can try making a neat stone wall fort in the rock biome, kind of fun to make a top down view of a house.

The issue is not having a goal, much like how minecraft was like after you setup a decent base and system.

Implementing a different variant of Adventure mode would help.

Keeping the map generation, Adventure mode can force players to co-operate to compete different objectives thrown at them by Maxwell maybe.

@strydevex, Well, most of the longer-term objectives involved caves/ruins/RoG content, and that's not in. But if you're bored in winter, you should be farming MacTusk :p

The next content pack/DLC (Through The Ages) is focused on longer-term objectives, though, I think.

If Adventure mode comes back, I do not think Maxwell will be in charge this time. Story-wise; Wilson defeated Maxwell, something secret happened, and then Wilson was free to make the portal to join forces with the others (DST).

Zed, Watcher, and Mr. Skits are the characters we need to keep a eye on. Watcher is definitely going to be huge in the story, Mr. Skits may or may not be involved since he really has only done one thing (giving us the secret mod), and Zed may not even exist. File code showed that Maxwell had speech lines for him to say, "Well, better go tell Zed." Zed may of been scrapped as a idea long ago, seeing how the Watcher appears to have all of the control.

I hope Mr. Skits get some more spotlight, as there must be a reason he has an actual name.

Consider tweaking the world parameters for a greater challenge.  More Hounds, More Spiders, More Chess Pieces, More Deerclops, Longer Winter, etc.

Unfortunately DS doesn't have much in the way of built-in Long-Term Objectives, and you'll always have to spend a decent amount of time making food, chopping wood, dealing with hounds, etc.

Hopefully they'll implement multi-player Caves & Ruins, as well as Adventure mode, all of which should make things a lot more interesting.

Funny enough, I think turning hounds up to MORE or LOTS is actually easier in the long run. There is a CRAZY amount that they reach, but they only reach it if set on the default.

For a real challenge, try to keep average players alive through the winter :encouragement: .

I can do it with one player, but I need to use reviving tools if there is multiple players. Keeping players alive is a lot like raising smallbirds. Which in my book means, all of them but one will die at some point.

try my S(no)w light mode - season: only winter - day: only night - everything else: default - survival mode, no mod, pvp off, play with 2-4 players - try to survived at least 30 days

It gets lame having to survive without grass though, at least thorns replenish during winter.

I was really disappointed that there were no Wooden Thing and no things to find to enter a new world. Part of the fun is generating and exploring new worlds with some of the stuff you collected after surviving the last one. I assume its not there due to saving issues across worlds but its a shame because simply surviving isn't that fun imo.

Yes Adventure mode would be awesome.
