I know this might stem from me being a tad OCD but part of the reason I really like Don't Starve is being able to lay out my base in neat little rows and organize everything.

My suggestion is what if we give the option to create a layout tool to draw where things could go.  This could be as simple as showing a box on the ground that you could label (eg) Chests here, farms here, bushes here.  The bonus about this is that people would know what you are trying to collect or build when first coming into the game.

What do you think?

Or you could tell new players that you have a design plan in mind, and you won't hesitate to dig up or hammer down any of their errantly-placed items

I feel ya on the neat-and-orderly... I joined a public game the other day, and the scattering of items all over the ground randomly drove me nuts. I didn't touch the chests or structures, I didn't want to mess with the system he already had in place, but I spent a day gathering all the tentacle spikes together in one spot, putting spent tools together in another, etc. I just told the guy "don't mind me, I'm cleaning house", haha.

Hahaha, I think that was my world. Thanks for doing that btw! All the things you and the other guy did were appreciated. That was one of my earlier worlds, and after playing on some other public servers, I have a better idea of how I want things organized.

It WAS you, I only remembered a name starting with M, but now that I see you again, it was definitely yours... that was fun, thank you so much!!! Did you find all the spikes and horns in the first part of the swamp? I set them off to the side so you or anyone else trying to get them wouldn't get hurt by the merms or that one lone tentacle left over. Were you able to gather up the excess On Tentacles books my partner left behind after the massacre? I tried to get down there to help, but with all the Beefalo in heat, I had to just book it out or risk dying on the spot. Beefalo on "lots", definitely a challenging experience, haha.

OK, one last sidetrack before I quit derailing, if you wouldn't mind leaving your specs in this megathread, that'd be cool. Another player is trying to gather data to give to Klei about the rubberbanding issues. I mentioned your server a bit as a client, but of course, I didn't consider even asking about your details or performance so I couldn't share that.

Yeah, we grabbed the books and made more... and ran into the problem of leftover tentacles killing people who spawned there instead of beefalos doing it. Oops. Believe it or not, beefalo was only on "more". I'll go take a look at that link.
