Some thought on Invisible Inc.'s Backstory

Recommended Posts

Invisible Inc's backstory is very interesting, especially with all these new item descriptions and what not. And what we've gotten from hints and what not from developers and what not. So this is what I basically could gleam from the backstory of Invisible Inc so far. And because I'm a man who spends too much time thinking, I decided I had to do it in this almost overly dramatic fashion. So besides this, what other backstory pieces did you guys ever find playing through Invisible Inc?

And without further adieu, this long piece of over dramatic writing.

The Year, 2074.

All sense of government has long since been forgotten after the devastating Resource Wars. From the ashes of death and destruction rose the Corporations, heralding a new age of trade of commerce. What was once countries now become Corporate Exclusivity Zones, build upon the ruins of old cities and flooded streets.

You are the Operator, director in a clandestine organization known as Invisible Inc. From your position, you commanded dozens of agents at your disposal, no secret safe from your grasp. With Lady Olivia ‘Central’ Gladstone and Incongita, the Firm was one that was nearly unstoppable.

Nearly.

The Firm has fallen. Its headquarters now in ruins. Your assets, frozen. Your agents, killed or imprisoned. Yourself, barely alive as you hobbled aboard a jet, the frost still fresh as it flies away into the air. And the most worrisome thing of all?

Incognita is dying. Though still alive thanks to the plane’s systems, it won’t be enough to sustain her. Without a proper mainframe to house her programming, she will eventually will be unable to continuing running, causing her to disappear forever.

You have 72 hours, operator. 72 hours to gather your team, build your resources, and save Incognita.

Be cautious. The fate of Incognita is in your hands. Don’t disappoint.

Someway take the keyboard away from me. I should not be allowed to let my brain to do more of this stuff.

Heh, seems pretty accurate. I honestly can't remember what has been made public in various posters and the game itself and what's still just in internal docs / headcanon, but it looks like you've nailed most of it. One correction, though, is that it's supposed to be 2074 (although I wouldn't be surprised if we typoed somewhere and said 2174 :)

Ah! So it is 2074! That's funny, I followed what you said in the Favorite character thread, and I guess you typoed 2174! I also gleamed a bit out of the Shopcat backstory you posted. Even if Shopcat's backstory may be nothing more than just a funny piece, you can still gleam the backstory of the world itself with it.

I really can't wait for more of the backstory that this game has. Something about this world that just gets me so excited in learning more. And that Medigel tastes like guava. Mmm, guava.

Maybe I should also record what some of the agents say when they start a new missions. Because I'm getting quite a bit of insight in the personality of each character. See, this is why I love these games. You learn about these characters through what they say and what not. A very good example of show and not tell. It's amazing!

I'm liking the new story as well I have to say, makes some of the recent design decisions (agents broken out of prison not starting with gear for instance) make a lot of sense. Also explains some of the lack of intel you have, and the reason why you're even raiding all manner of corporations willy nilly.

Also love all the new item descriptions and names, the Neural Disruptor and Med Gel descriptions made me laugh at least. Some are a bit to verbose for the max amount of characters that can be displayed, the Plasma Gun and what used to be the Energy Gun before this patch (forgot the new name, was it Burst Gun?) have got their text cut off at least.

Can't wait to see more of this in the updates to come :)
