Raw Carrots should be healthier!

Recommended Posts

I'm a big fan of raw veggies in the real world.  I mean, sure I might not have been as much as a child, but I certainly am as an adult.  Raw veggies are great!

Every time I eat a raw carrot in don't starve I feel like my character is getting healthier... I actually feel happy about eating it raw as opposed to cooked.  However, I know the current mechanics reward the player for cooking the carrot.

So, I wonder, why not reward the players for eating raw carrots?  It wouldn't hurt much, it would change game play a little, but then so does every patch you make!

I'd just like to see the raw carrot give more health, but then what's the point in cooking them?  Well, I'd say none at all... Just make it so raw carrots are 3 health and 12.5 hunger (as I'm told they are now) while cooked ones would be 1 health and 12.5 hunger.

However, if people feel there must be some benefit to cooking carrots, then I humbly suggest making it a trade off.  Perhaps raw the carrot could be 3 health and 6 hunger, while cooked they are 1 health and 12.5 hunger.  It would make the carrot 'nature's healer!'

As it is now, its not (usually) that difficult for a player to collect up carrots and plot down a fire at night and cook them up and eat them to get the best health benefits the game has for the carrot to offer.  In fact, that's generally what I do when I'm playing.

I'd just like to see the raw carrot be the healthier choice.  Who knows, the idea might actually sink in to some children and maybe even adults who play that eating your veggies raw is healthier!

Sincerely,

Sasuga

Presumably because the mechanic of cooking things and making them more effective is a part of the game. It would be unexpected behavior for carrots to randomly be different from everything else...violates expectations and whatnot

Your argument is invalid.

We have the corn.

Sooo... you want me to go out of my way to find a carrot, build a fire, and then cook it, just so I can remove 2 health points from it?

Why the blimey heck would you even include cooked carrots in the game then?

Fresh foods that are uncooked could lean towards sanity. As it is now, carrots fill 12.5 hunger and 3 hp when cooked. When they are not cooked, maybe they fill 10 hunger and 2-3 sanity.

But flowers are a much easier source of gaining sanity, and they restore 5.  Heck, cook a green mushroom and you get 15.

I think the carrots are fine the way they are.

Yeah, I've had people tell me that I needed to cook things over the fire before putting them in the crockpot to get the best effects too.
