Character Idea: Wartree

Name: Wartree The Naturalist (if you have a better one, go ahead and tell me, this one is just temporary :D)

 

Special Abilities:

 

+ Is able to summon friendly, but weak Treeguards, which deal less damage and have lower Health than normal ones.

 

+ Sanity increases slightly when standing near trees

 

- Sanity decreases when chopping trees

 

- extremely vulnerable to fire damage

 

I would be glad if you had more ideas for this character!

The trees are too much like Maxwell's ability. But chopping trees and losing sanity is cool.

 

On the positive side though, it is a good idea for a character. He should be able to make wood tools, special armor, and some way to get wood without chopping trees, like a wood farm. He plants a pinecone at the wood farm, and then it grows into a log. This would work because one pinecone=one log, so you still have to chop for pinecones.

I think the character itself should have very low health so you'll need to get help by allies - maybe wartree (or whatever he is named) could also tame a army of a few little birchnut monsters!

What about this: You sacrifice a certain item to a tree and in return there is a chance of, say 20%, to spawn a friendly treeguard.

Maybe instead of treegaurds, he/she could spawn 1-5 of those annoying birchnutters that attack you whenever try to chop down a birchnut tree...

If those birchguards are friendly, that would be slightly OP.

(The tiny guys they summon are called birchnutters, the big trees of doom are called Birchnut Treeguards, but i call them Birchguards because it sounds cooler.)

Hunger: 125

Sanity:   125

Health:   125

 

+ Is able to sacrifice meat to trees:

    Morsel, etc: 50% chance of getting a bit of wood and pine cones/birchnuts.

                       25% chance of spawning a befriended birchnutter (Not possible on evergreens).

    Meat, Koalefant Trunk, etc.:

                      20% chance of summoning a befriended, but weak treeguard.

 

-  Drains Sanity when chopping wood;

 

+ Sanity increases slightly when standing near mature trees.

 

+ Effectivity of wooden armor/ maybe wooden tools is increased

 

-  Very vulnerable by fire damage

 

 

I think this stats are quite balanced. If you want to add or correct something, feel free to do it. :D

Knowing the efficiency of werepiggy farm you could get youself a whole army of mini treeguards in a few days, too OP.

I like the idea, but would strive to make the character as unique as possible.  Might get better input on feasibility over in the mods forum.

 

My ideas to make character unique:

 

Log source - You could have some mechanic like Wilson's Beard where you could "shed" excess logs and pine cones every few days.  This would eliminate having to cut down trees often as that would drain sanity.

 

Food - Only consumes what a tree would consume - Fertilizer (manure, rot), maybe twigs and grass?  You could increase stomach size and limit food sources to keep it balanced.

 

Health - This could go either way.  I keep thinking about the Ents from Lord of the Rings and assume they would have high health.  You could make it so that rain increases health and effects from overheating are greater.

 

Summons - I like the idea, but not necessarily by trading meat to trees.  I'd make it so there is chance to spawn a treeguard every pine cone you plant, they naturally follow and will aggro if you cut down a tree.

 

Just some ideas, but again you might have some additional input in the mods forum.
