Map Editor

This game is so much fun, but something's needed to keep more experienced players interested after hours of experimentation.

 

Why not offer a map editor? It must be simple enough to implement, presumably you have one internally anyway. As long as you have upper limits on the total number of flora and fauna in-game the engine's capabilities won't be overstretched.

 

Suggested features:

 

* Unlocks after a "cartographer" quest / mission series offered by passive in-game character

 

* Landmass design

 

* Biome texture placement

 

* Bridge placement

 

* Structure placement (spider dens, pig houses, sinkholes, rabbit holes etc)

 

* Flora and fauna placement (possibly fauna should spawn based on structure placement, though beefalo would need to be accounted for)

 

* Special object locations (Maxwell's door, wormholes, player spawn, dead bodies + ?preset? goodies)

 

* Placement of boons

 

Hope you're interested devs, and thanks for making this fantastic game.

This would be nice.

 

Think about it, Klei devs. You could open the doors for lots of fan-made adventures. At the end of the day, when all the major pieces of DS have been put together, it's the mod community that keeps a game alive. Why not hand over, at the absolute least, some mapping tools, eventually? There's a wide savanna's worth of opportunities!
