Do mushrooms grow back in Caves?

Recommended Posts

So how did all those mushrooms grow there in the first place...

Caves tend to be damp, we can assume that over the last century or two that enough water has pooled in various areas to slowly but surely provide life to a small, innocent mushroom. This century-old mushroom is the proof that life can survive, if just barely, in the most extreme conditions. This token of life is then eaten unceremoniously by our characters because symbolism doesn't mean a whole lot in a game.

So if it's able to survive, why not grow back?
