Mandrakes?

I have seen posts about these 'Mandrakes' never personally seen one, what are they like? Also heard they were very rare. Thanks for reading.

Only a few spawn on each world, and it'll just look like a leafy plant poking out of the ground. Mandrakes are a powerful food item, able to restore all your health and hunger. They also work like an improved version of the bedroll if you try cooking it over a fire at night.

If you pick it during the day, it'll die and then be treated like any other food item. If you pick it during the evening or at night, it'll happily hop around and follow you, burrowing itself back into the ground at dawn.

Well, you sort of can, but only if you pick it during the evening or at night, and they don't really serve any purpose while alive other than being cute. Sunlight kills mandrakes, so picking it during the day just results in a dead but quite edible mandrake.

One more thing to keep in mind is that there are only about 3-4 NON-RESPAWNABLE mandrakes in each world.
