Symmetryc Posted December 25, 2013 Share Posted December 25, 2013 Hello, before I begin I'd like to explain some things. About eight months ago I watched some of my favorite YouTubers play this game. At first it seemed like it was a really neat idea, but it could get boring after you get used to it, so I forgot about it. Fast forward to about five(ish) months later, I see this game in the YouTube suggested section and I have another look at it, this time stumble across (what I believe was) the wiki and I checked to see if there was anything cool that I could possibly look further into and that wasn't there before. This led me to the Modding section where I discovered that people could add their own content to what now seemed like an amazing game with a great community surrounding it. Fast forward another couple months or so. I've finally got a plethora of issues regarding my personal life resolved and I'm considering delving into a good game for some casual entertainment. So, remembering the fondness I had for this game, I've come here now. I could be completely wrong in this assumption, as I'm used to the likes of Minecraft mods where you're tripping over thousands and thousands of modders (albeit shovelware as well), but the community seems severely lacking in people who can write Lua code. I'm extremely familiar with the Lua programming language and I've written at least 1000 lines of it per week for the last year of my life. I feel like I could really contribute something to this wonderful community, but here is the problem: I'm honestly extremely lost with this game and I don't really understand how the modding works and all partially because I'm really new to the game itself, but also because of the forums a bit. I tried looking through the different areas of the forums, but it seems like there are dozens with dozens of sub forums each with tons of threads and stickies. I very much confused and a little guidance how I could go about achieving these goals would be much appreciated, thanks in advance! I'm not a modder myself, but I'm sure the guys at http://forums.kleientertainment.com/forum/26-dont-starve-mods-and-tools/ would appreciate the help. There are a lot of good mods that still need more work, and as far as I know, new requests keep coming from people who aren't so skilled at working with the code.So, I'd suggest to search for further help/ideas from there. I've been looking through many of the scripts posted my players and I see many constants and such that are not from standard Lua, is there any available documentation on this "Don't Starve API" (for lack of better term)? Or are you trying to say, "I do not agree the option to toggle permadeath would hurt anyone?"
