fritoz Posted November 24, 2013 Share Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) Hi everyone!I had a fun mod idea i wanted to share with you all, and hopefully to connect with some of the great modders here at the Dont Starve forums, i only started playing this game 2 weeks ago, but ive been obsessed with how fun it is! i am a graphic artist, but not a coder, and i would like to work with someone to have some fun and make a modhopefully this hasnt already been posted, if so i apologize, i can only read so far back into the many pages here, and my searches yielded no real matches, so here goes:My idea is a mod which makes a random NEW *follower* that somehow attaches to the character and follows the player around- ala how a mandrake automatically attachces to you and non aggressively follows you making that weird sound heh hehi propose this follower character model archetype will start to induce insanity and/or hunger upon the player, (at a rate to be determined) ... the follower will not attack the player, but the player cannot get rid of the follower until the player kills it or an enemy creature kills it- and the follower will have a high HP so it would sound easy enough to just kill the follower instantly, so i think it would be cool if the player kills it directly you will receive a large negative naughtiness penalty instantly, as well as a smaller penalty each time you attack the follower when killed the follower would drop loot (see below) additionally i propose the follower affect the gameworld around them (if this is possible within a mod) like turning flowers and food in the ground to rot within a predetermined radius around the player and follower, making the chances of treeguards higher, making some animals and enemy characters go aggro when near the follower, including existing friendly pig, bunny, rocklobster followers also it would be cool if it also had a random percentage chance to make it instantly start a lighting storm and to rain when the follower attaches itself if in summer, or a strong snow in the winter, if in caves the nightmare mode comes instantly Q. What will the followers look like?A. 2 Options!1st Option: I can create custom new artwork for the new follower models,id like a few different for the overworld and totally different ones for caves, so there is a bit of variation and surprise! I picture for the caves a little demon/dragon/monster follows you, in the overworld some crazy animals or monsters, like a floating eye or a insane looking mutant squirrel, i went to art shcool so i can do all the artwork no problem, while keeping in the style of the Dont Starve Universe OR!! 2nd Option: We use existing in-game characters that randomly go *NUTS*I also think it would be very cool if a random creature like a bunny or a bird or a turkey or a spider or pig or a bunnyman or rocklobster just go nuts and be teh insanity or hunger inducing follower, you'd never know until it was too late when you approached a bunny to catch or a pig to befriend, meybe even one of those spiders is actually an insanity inducing crazy-spider!!! one you came within a certain radius of the follwer, it would automatically come over to you and follow you! Q. What will the followers sound like?i think it would be appropriate for the proposed followers to sound pretty annoying a nd crazy, like the sound a rabbit makes when being chased! something so you know *something* is happening out of the ordinary! 2 Follower Types:Hunger Inducing FollowerInsanity Inducing Follower Stipulations for spawn: *note: * these are all WIP's- the great community here can help add to this/refine it Global: Player has played 100 ingame daysPlayer had created a shadow manipulatorFollower model(s) will appear randomly in overworld, waiting to be found like chester (but no inventory item needed) once the player comes within a hotpost radiusIn Caves:Player has ventured to 2nd level Ruins Additionally, after 150 ingame days the random follower model will actively run from the character when the player attempts to attack it like a turkey or rabbit, so the player will need a projectile weapon/magic ranged weapon to kill the follower directly, and will start to degrade any food items in player inventory After 200 days the models will ramp up in spawn frequency, and not be able to be killed by enemy monster characters (they will not go aggro on follower) as well as the rate at which hunger or insanity is induced is increased dramatically, making you starve very quickly- Additionally ALL food in player inventory is instatnly turned to rot! Loot Drops:Hunger Inducing Follower: Drops 2 Turkey meat, one morsel meat, one random veg (Turkey Dinner in crockpot) small random chance to additionally drop a random weapon: chance for spear, small chance for projectile weapon dart variation, very small chance for magic weaponInsanity Inducing Follower: Drops 4 nightmare fuel, small random chance for red or blue gem, very small random chance for purple crystal *************************** I just thought this would be a fun idea for more spice in the game and a bit more challenge and craziness in an already crazy world please feel free to add any ideas everyone!! fritoz Posted November 26, 2013 Author Share Posted November 26, 2013 (edited) Can you post some of your graphics?sure! check your pm! i havent done any dont starve fnart yet, but ive seen the cool stuff everyone has done at deviantart and on the main game webpage- alot of talented people and great fans of dont starve You should check out my Summons mod. wow, i just did, it sounds like you have the mechanics of a follower down- youre awesome man! great job with that mod!! so instead of having a beneficial follower like in your mod, i just need to change it to a bad thing when it happens (unless you get the insanity inducing follower and you want to use it to get to full on insanity..) so, could this mod i propose incorporate your awesome code? i have no clue about the coding as i said before, but i am always ready to learn something new we'd just need to make it so when the follower attaches itself to you the screen goes goofy like when you are wearing a life-giving amulet and a hunger drain or insanity inducing penalty is addes to the player.. does this sound like fun to anyone else? let me know if you would like to work on this i will check out the tutorials on making mods here at the forum, maybe i can learn a thing or two about making this work! *** I also had another good idea, (if this should be another thread let me know) how about another bad follower type that looks just like the "eye-bone" that activates chester? , except when you come up to it thinking it is the chester eyebonestick it instead starts to approach you before you even get to it! again, it doesnt attack you directly, but it either drains one of 3 things: either your health, your hunger, or your sanity for each of the 3 possibilities, the player character could say something appropriate and different for each situation, like "Urgh, my stomach hurts all of a sudden" if it turns out to be hunger, "Ack, my head is killing me" if it is insanity, and ", "I feel my life slipping away" if its your health that gets sapped this rouge eyebone would always skirt your attacks like a rabbit or turkey so youd always either need to get an enemy to kill it somehow or use a ranged weapon evil eyebone has high HP and above average speed - and when you kill the bone you get a large naughtiness penalty like killing 8 rabbits evil eyebone would spawn only once in a new world, to mirror the one true chester eyebone so the first time you see the eyebone, youd never know if it was the real eyebone...or...an evil doppleganger...heh heh Loot Drop:3 nightmare fuelsmall percentage chance to drop either a red or blue gem we could call it dopple-bone or sinister-eyebone or something silly like that i think this one is even more doable than my main idea! i would be very interested in learning how to do all this, as i said i will check out the tutorials here on making mods, but if anyone wants to help with making the evil eyebone or the main post evil follower ideas, let me know! cheers!
