I think Imma have to make a sticky:

There is no simple guide to modding most things.  It's usually trial and error, even if you know what you're doing.

There are dozens of types of mods, so you'd need dozens of tutorials to cover them.

The best advice is this: Dig into existing mods that do something similar to what you're after. Learn how they actually function and then you can take baby steps to creating your own.  Then, when you get to a stumbling block, stop in and they'll be folks glad to help you.

The hard truth is, you're going to have to learn coding on your own, then apply that knowledge to don't starve modding.  No simple road, I'm afraid.

You may, very well, find that coding/modding is simply over your head. You can always start a 'request' thread.  You may get lucky and find someone who wants to make it.

Depending on what you're trying to achieve you'll need:

1.Artistic skills. If you wanna add new content you'll probably need new textures. You at the very least need to know how to work with photoshop / any other image manipulator that works with layers at a basic level.

2.If you have no knowledge of OOP (object oriented programming) I doubt you'll even get past how a function works , let alone modify it.

Those are the basic pre-requisits.

This guide helped me to create my own character, READ IT;

There is a bounty of knowledge hidden in the forums, you just need to browse through and read what you need.

After your character is completed and you want to add certain perks, check the prefab files of existing items or other mods already published.

Download some good character mods and read their files, it will make sense if you follow the tutorial above.

You can also use the character mods as a base template, changing what you need as you go along

Have fun
