Monocles are made of 4 gold, never wear out (or atleast over a VERY long period of time) and raise 1.5 sanity per minute. It will go into a new eyewear slot, and other things can go there as well, such as nightvision goggles as suggested by someone else (sorry, I forgot!), glasses (reveals a larger radius on the map maybe?), and other things!
