I set up base next to a Pig Village, and I also managed to hoarde 2 stacks of meat before the update so I think I'm fine on all edges.

not sooo much fun if it is a red one accompanied by 3 or 4 normal hounds good thing my imprisoned pig tends to draw a lot of their attention, yet, I am not sure I would survive such a fight when it would happen during night time.

Meh, it depends on your tactics; run and kill one and then the others will eat the meat of the fallen, then kill the second and so on. Also their pattern is not too difficult, once they have bitten twice they take a small break and then you can hit.

Yup. My solution? In my fort there's a rabbit hole on the far side. I place a rabbit trap over the hole and hunt without leaving my fort. It's slow, but you only need 4 meat morsels per day. Also, huge supply of grass (200+) and sticks (100+) for traps.
