Oh, I believe this is because the lightning strike that is called upon to teleport you can't reach the caves, as it strikes the surface above and can't pierce through the ground, causing rubble to fall. :wilson_lightbulb:

…that makes a shocking amount of sense actually, I always assumed it was some sort of “the nightmare cycle and the ruins screws up telelocation for some unknown reason” but I think you’ve got it. I love how there’s always some random tidbit about this game i haven’t figured out yet.

Yup. Further confirmation of this is Wicker’s “the end is nigh” book, which at the surface would summon a lot of lightning strikes, and inside the caves it just causes a lot of rubble to fall.

I still find it funny that if for some reason you don’t have a single AoE option but DO have a telelocator staff, you can use it to attack Rictus by having the rubble fall on them
