Actually… I HATE the boat cookie combat in DST, I HATE that that is what the ocean experience had been changed into after it was so fun and simple in DS Shipwrecked.. but, I absolutely will not discredit all the time and work Klei put into the “Boat Cookie Experience” of DST, they did a lot of work to try and bring players a new type of sailing experience, my issue with that however, is that compared to SW it’s slower & more cumbersome and requires more resource management. How & Why is that important or relevant to the topic at hand?? Well..

We have already seen in the DSE reveal trailer what appears to be actual Boats that look like Boats and not the flat Cookies that are in DST.. they look more like Shipwreckeds designs YAY! ♥️ But where does that leave the “circular platform to do battle on?” Hot Air Balloons that’s where! We can not just land these anywhere we want (that would break the game obviously) but Hot Air Balloons appear in the Hamlet DLC (that’s the thing you spawn beside when loading into a world cause you crashed it) add some air combat (air pirate raids but less annoying) maybe some flying pesky bird types.. the sky wouldn’t need to be filled with life and things to explore unlike the OCEAN.. so it would be far more fitting for an empty-ish cloudy sky with the very seldom hot air balloon pirates, and pesky birds.. we could then have SW style boating combat and exploration & DST style boating combat in the same game albeit, now re-assigned to Hot Air Balloons for circular platform style combat & navigation instead.

They can’t float forever though, and will obviously need to land for fuel, so no you can’t have a permanent air base.

its a very cool idea. Making an entire plane though? ehhh... wouldn't fit into the game. A hot air balloon is a cool idea, but i still struggle to see how air travel would work in a game like Don't Starve. even elsewhere with its new axis

very cool art and concept though

Same idea from my concepts

Those are cool art work! But I need to point out that I only own an Xbox & a Cellphone so I can not download mods and do not really have any knowledge about any of them except for a few (like that play as critters one)

However: I do not think that Klei is going to add Guns into a (kids game?) I believe the DS franchise is rated T for Teen though so.. I guess they COULD it wouldn’t be any worse than Lego games or they can take a page out of Minecraft the movies book.. and instead of firing bullets let it fire potatoes..?

Either way.. I definitely do feel like after all the work Klei put into DSTs boating experience (even if it was hated by many, myself included) that it was still a Unique concept, it forced the player to do battles on a tiny moving circular platform. And instead of abandoning that entirely.. they should keep it in the game in some capacity.

And what I would LIKE for them to do is make ocean exploration more like it was in Solo DS Shipwrecked DLC, boats that didn’t move so painfully slow & actually looked like boats (we see Willow swimming towards one in the teaser trailer for DSE so I have fingers crossed!)

While at the same time: Adding tiny circular platform you do combat on (DSTs Cookie shaped boats) into DSE as Hot Air Balloons we can take to the skies with.
Flying enemy types we can deal with at range (or with melee if they board our Hot air balloon)

It would be roughly the same as DSTs current ocean experience, only instead of water we replace that with clouds..

Sort of like that with the ground below being barely visible.

Maybe they can do cool “sky biomes” too like a large cliff that extends above the clouds, or a Castle Tower.

There is 100% potential to have both Shipwrecked style Ocean Exploration and Boats, while at the same time, Not just completely abandoning the “Circular Platform” concept that DSTs boats used by turning that into taking to the skies on circular hot air balloon platforms.
