i feel skill trees in dst are kinda really mid, like im sorry the system itself is kinda badly designed

the skill points are only obtainable by waiting which is boring, but also the fact points carry over in worlds means that the skills themselves can't be too insane and you'd steamroll the entire early game, see woodie

skill trees have the opportunity to be fun but the game needs to be designed with them in mind and i feel like skill trees resetting per world but having a way to get points be part of active gameplay would be so much more fun than the system we have rn where skills are gotten by surviving a long time once then onwards every world your character can potentially be the strongest they can be, like idk maybe a mix where it's both surviving as long as possible but you can get points from killing bosses or farming crops or fishing or whatever, like interact with the games systems and the world and get rewarded for it

plus i feel a lot of skills trees just don't have enough variety, wolfgang woodie and wigfrids are 90% filler skills that just change stats that don't change the core gameplay of these characters at all, and most skill trees, due to the lack of variety and viable and fun gameplay altering skills you can choose from them, end up looking exactly the same for every world, like i think willow is one of the only characters where her skill tree allows for different build paths depending on what you want to focus on and both of them are equally viable and strong

and with skill trees being something you have to build up from the start in every world they could make later skills way  stronger than they are right now which is more fun and allows klei to make enemies more challenging the longer you survive to compensate, like imagine if willow's biden blast didn't have to account for the fact you can get it so early on, imagine if the moose could be balanced to be usable against the endgame bosses without having to worry about the fact woodie can transform into it as soon as you have 3 monster meat and some grass, imagine abigail could be made way more survivable as the game moves on without having to worry about her now being able to solo every seasonal boss etc.

obviously it's a bit late to overhaul the system in dst but i would love it if it was changed for elsewhere, if the skilltrees are even a thing here

im asuming the rest of the survivors are gonna get added but if wendy wilson wx and willow are the only characters in early access it'd be the perfect opportunity to do it with the way smaller roster

They should fix them in DST and not include them in DSE. The biggest draw DST could have to keep it unique from DSE is if DSE maintained the DS roots while DST kept its weird RPG thing. If DSE is just DST 2 then nobody would spend any money on DST since it's just an inferior product.

How about make a good character and only add skill trees when they run out of ideas

To klei skill trees are basically bandaids to outdated characters

Yeah, uh, no. Wortox got one. Wurt got one. They were incredibly powerful both before and after the skill trees. Walter also got one and, while he isn't as strong, he is NOT outdated.

im not talking about strength, compare willow rework from 2019 to the average skill tree in 2025 and 2026

Willow specifically is the most clear example of a skill tree that is made to bandaid the character into being more combatslop
Hopefully for DSE there will not be any embers or weird spells

Was the trailer not convincing enough?

Sure, they could've chosen to not show it, but Willow never even attempted to set a mob on fire. She also has Bernie, but you'd think we at least see BERNIE! as well.

It's quite possible she, along with everyone else, is being kept even simpler this time around.
