I finally bought DST on Steam!

I started playing on public servers, and I got to thinking: Is there any kind of unspoken “code of conduct?”

At the very least, what are some things I could do to be a good player?

I main Walter on servers; I have read over 80% of the wiki (maybe more), and have read posts here for a while. That said, I don’t actually have any experience playing the game.

Thoughts?

do not dig mushrooms, knock down structures or take more food than you can eat, do offer to help if you are able and say hello when you join to diffuse a bit of the stress of coming into a pub for the first time

Awesome!

I usually try to leave as little impact as possible on the server. I will try to consider whether something will impact everybody else as much as possible.

Leave base if hounds or deerclops is the basic.

Less stated things:

1. If base is near buzzards, put glommer on a boat. If base is in Decidious, make sure catcoons cant kill.

2. Try sort chests nice and dont be lazy about it.

3. If your Wendy, dont put Abigail on aggressive in base.

4. Be wary if you are spending all of a bases resource on something. Sometimes its better to use your own resources.

5. Always pick resources when they are available. It gives your team a ton of resources since most people only pick when they need them and dont stockpile.

1. Make sure that when you find the mandrakes, you cook them and feed them to pigs or spiders, preferably with players around and a boss fight going on. Everyone will appreciate it!

2. The Terrarium summons a fun boss fight, so make sure to use it every night! But keep it a secret who's using it, it's more fun that way. If you get one, give it a Nightmare Fuel first for double the fun!

3. Setting a mob on fire near the base can make for an interesting challenge everyone will enjoy.

4. If a player's annoying you, just catch a moleworm, make five gunpowder, and make a rabbit trap, then stand next to the annoying player, drop the gunpowder, the trap, and the moleworm in that order. Try to back away quickly once the mole drops. It'll teach them a lesson! Might want to keep a watering can on hand if you don't want anything to burn, though.

5. If you find the Pan Flute, take it to Pearl's island and leave it there as a gift.

6. If you end up in the ruins, remember to smash all the Ancient Pseudoscience Stations for the extra loot chance!

7. If you're playing Walter and you have the slingshot grips perk, you need to get Glommer on the first full moon (night 11). Kill him immediately to get the goo you need quicker!

8. WX-78 players in particular think it's a really funny joke if you make water balloons and throw them at them.

9. If you're playing Webber, remember to use the Shoo Box to dismiss your spiders in the base so they go home and totally don't attack anyone or anything like that!

10. The fire pit in the base is very hammerable at night, give it a try!

This guide on how to interact with your fellow pawns- I mean, survivors, is brought to you by Charlie, who is not evil and would never intentionally misguide you to cause chaos.

You forgot that webber is always an appreciated character to join a public server, specially one with many players already.

And to make your little spider farm of 10-20 tier 3 dens clumped together at half a screen of the base. And never attend them.
