Don't Starve Together: Update 1.23.0 (Nintendo Switch - released November 20, 2025)

Changes

  • - Hallowed Nights have returned.
  • Added Crystal-Crested Buzzards. They will roam the world after a Lunar Hail, searching for players.
  • More creature corpses can mutate into their lunar counterpart when in applicable areas, just like Hounds.

    • Pengulls
    • Merms
    • Birds
    • Spider Quee
  • Added Moon Shards to the Possessed Vargs loot table.
  • Geothermite can be scanned by Wx-78's Bio Scanalyzer for the Thermal Circuit.
  • Multiple sources of lunacy will increase mutation chances for applicable creatures.
  • All mutatable corpses will mutate when unloaded, instead of being deleted.
  • Mutated Merms thorns damage is halved towards players.
  • Added a new World Settings category for Lunar Mutations.

Fixes

  • Fixed corpses not persisting between game sessions.
  • Fixed Wendy's generic and reviving status examinations for Dead Birds being swapped.
  • Fixed Otters and Grass gators not having an idle animation when dying in the ocean.
  • Fixed missing visuals in Shadow Merms appear and disappear states.
  • Fixed Shadow Merms being able to attack when they should be disappearing.
  • Fixed a crash during the "A Task Complete" stage play when a Mannequin is playing the role of the Artificer.
  • Fixed Icker's missing unique state examinations when they contain an item or character.
  • Fixed the Dead Gingerbread Varg incorrectly displaying "Dead Varg".
  • Fixed certain issues with an amphibious mob (e.g. Hound) dying on water, and turning invisible when pushed to land.
  • Fixed Permafrost Pengulls being scared of each other.
  • Fixed world generation layout for repeat generations being deviant from world seed.
  • Fixed players going invisible when recoiling from an attack while on a Beefalo.
  • Fixed Horror Hounds not performing their howl sound when initially spawning.
  • Fixed the following sources of Enlightenment not counting as proper mutate spots for creature corpses.
  • Areas within Moonstorms
    • Full Moons when Lunar Rifts are enabled.
    • Tiles occupied by the Lunar Rift.
    • Fixed Maxwell's shadow minions using the incorrect attack recoil animation.
  • Fixed Moonstorms on load not always setting the moon phase style correctly if Celestial Champion was defeated.
  • Fixed the lunacy source from a full moon when lunar rifts are enabled not properly working when a player spawns during it.
  • Fixed Moon Shards and Stone Fruit not being destroyed by other falling earthquake debris.
  • Fixed Woodie's hat not properly protecting against Moon Shards and Stone Fruit when they are falling debris.
  • Fixed Shattered Spider Holes not properly following the day cycle like other Spider Dens.

Thanks for the new content, but ffs fix the constant crashing.

It's not specific to this update. It's been happening a lot since either hail or Wortox/Wurt got their skill tree.  But it seems to get worse each update.

It was happening at least once every 60 to 90 minutes today, often at the start of a new day, and very often while doing anything on, or touching the ocean. Picking kelp, being on a boat, seemingly everything. 

How can we enjoy any of this when we're getting rolled back a full day consistently. It sucks. DST is the worst game I've played bug wise, on Switch. I can only think of one other game that has had a game crashing bug and that's Cyberpunk 2077, but only in a specific area of the game. You can work around that.

Right now, with DST, you don't have that choice. Had to fight klaus and crystal dear twice. Had to redo an entire shitfest of crystal buzzards turning all the spider queens into shattered dens which was funny the first time but tedious the 2nd time. Ant lion twice. 

On my own time I've been dced during CC. DCed during Crab King 3x. DCed during Sharkboy 2x. DCed trying to find a bottle for pearl multiple times. DCed trying to find lunar multiple times. Same with Moonquay. Are you seeing a pattern here? Not to mention all the other random crashes at other less memorable but just as annoying times. 

Do you think there is a single switch user that gives a crap about a copy and paste fix that makes you invisible on beefalo? I don't even see Switch users rider beefalo.

I've never once seen someone interact with the stage on Switch in a random world. 

But the constant DCing sucks for everyone. 

And fix the new control scheme.  There have been multiple dissatisfied comments. I'll help you for free. Contact me and allow me to test any controller changes on PC before making adjustments. Just fix them already and allow people that regularly use controllers to give feedback that is actually acknowledged.

The situation that crashes the most (among many cases that seem essentially random) is at the beginning of the day during an automatic save where we notice that the game will crash during this save. During the recharge of the game, we notice that it has returned, not the day before but 2 days before!!!

Example: beginning of day 50 ---> beginning of day 51 (auto save) ---> beginning of day 52 (save launch => crashing) ---> game reboot ==> restoration at the beginning of day 50 !!!

That’s what is the most frustrating because we lose 2 full days. I think that what happens in these moments is that the game replaces the old save with the new one and, during this action, the game crashes (for an unknown reason) and loses the 2 files in the operation

PS: This crash, without me being able to say it, seems to happen especially when there is a secondary window open at the time of saving (crockpot, album, map, chest, skillset...)

Which character are you using? 

I started a world as Wortox and at least pre rift I don't remember excessively crashing. Except as Wortox on ocean, that causes a lot of crashes regardless 

Post rifts, or with other players (because my friends joined my world post rifts) crashing is incredibly frequent while hosting as Wortox.

I switched to Wanda and the crashing has subsided a lot. It's not noticeable, but when it does happen it generally happens at the start of the day as we've mentioned, and if we're doing something.

At the start of the day we're constantly telling each other (over voice chat) to not move.

Also a year ago when Wortox released (the only other time I used him this much) the exact same issue happened, but we figured it was a patch bug. Maybe this is a bug that gets worse if someone is Wortox under certain conditions.

I play walter and my wife wigfrid (wendy before) . It's interessting to thinking if characters have an influence on stability. I think no but why not. 
On another 200+ server i swaped with walter/wortox/wigfrid/wurt (the last char with skillset) --> no difference on stability
And my crash experience is very different : solo (stable) vs split (horrific)

This is a common issue.

Again, my own experience is that Wortox is a problematic character. The most problematic. Maybe other characters have issues as well. 

Pre AFW and possibly CC I don't remember crashing as Wortox and people weren't really joining my world. At some point, all three happened together (rifts, people joining, crashing).

I switched character and have crashed significantly less.

Today just trying to get through short winter has caused 5 crashes? Im losing count. within less than 2 hours.

And to note, I switch back to Wanda and the crashing went from once every 30 minutes to once every season, two if I'm lucky.

When I swapped to Wicker to make books then Max to farm I'm pretty sure I went 2 maybe 3 seasons with no crash.
