The boulderbough seeds become rot after 10 days from harvesting. I'm not sure whether the boulderboughs regrow or not but such short spoilage time won't help maintaining the stocks in multiplayer servers. Even in singleplayer it's just an addition of tedious bundling process every time. Of course you can't store the seeds in elastispaced chests because of the spoilage time.
By the way, I found out that you can store the seed in the icker preserve kit. But it would be better to just remove the spoilage time.

I think it could make sense for the seeds to only lose durability when not near a heat source. These trees are practically growing in an underground volcano. What if, the trees being by heat source or in their biome stopped spoilage time?

Why wouldn't you just stuff them in the ground instead?

Imagine if grass tufts spoiled when uprooted. They're non-renewable, and it would be a really bad feature.

A drawback like seeds spoiling makes the trees more interesting instead of just infinite free cave lootboxes :wilson_sneaky:

It’s hard to call spoilage a downside to it when all it means in actuality is having to bundle it, all it really does is punish you for not immediately replanting them

i mean most thing people will do will be to take every possible sapling they can find and plant them all in the ruins for gems and thulecite- even with 3 days of spoilage time it would be easy to do soo its not a big deal in my eyes

It's not like your typical tree, this one overflows with loot.

this is called a trade off

It's entirely meaningless. The only time it's likely to come into play is if some noob gathers a bunch of them and dies, letting them permanently rot away.

Any other time they're just going to be planted because you're losing out on potential resources for not growing them.

good.

No stacking in your infinite chests + gives the icker pod an opportunity to shine.

dst players are truly dumbfounded by the idea of balance arent they

there are barely two stacks of seeds worth of boulderboughs in most worlds, why would they need to be balanced around elastispaced chests?

Rotting would be justified is if it were as commonly available renewable or easily duplication as Birchnuts. Otherwise, the penalty to the party and the world as a whole if you accidentally rot it would be too harshly.

It might be better if after rotting, instead of turned Rot, it turned into "Twiggy Boulderbough Seed," which doesn't spawn additional loot but can be grown and cut down to become a Boulderbough Seed again.

Even that's just because they're edible. Pine cones don't rot. Sea sprout starters don't. Anenemies don't. Stone fruit bushes don't. Banana bushes don't. Surprising seeds don't.

The closest thing is bull kelp stalks, but that's after 40 days and they function as a whip. Lune trees are similar, but you can multiply those.

Looks like they're subject to world regrowth now, and dropped by GDW.

The spoilage is still a meaningless use of the mechanic though. It's not impactful. It's a weird outlier compared to other non-edible seedling/bush items.
