all the pigs are truffle pigs who dig up truffles in their house and sell them to the moleworms who give them gold from earthquakes in return. meanwhile the pig king sells food and trinkets to the other pigs at a marked up price from what he buys them from you for

logical right

In a society of cartoon pigs, it's intuitive that the ruler would be the largest one there. It's relatively common for state fairs to have competitions for who can bring in the largest pig they've raised, for example. Also he probably eats the meat we give him off screen while we aren't looking.

As for the gold: he's the king! He's gotta be wealthy, obviously! Just one of the many examples of the cartoon logic that the constant runs on, he has literally infinite riches because he's the king. If we want to take it seriously, though, maybe Hamlet used to use regular gold nuggets as currency, and he's just got THAT big of a supply saved up from his time there in the past.

Possibly the Pig King has taken a deal with the shadows for great riches, leading him to be expelled from Hamlet. Having been from Hamlet, the pig king does what he knows to get food by trading his wealth with any who bring him food. Him making this deal could have been the reason pig-kind is cursed in the first place.

As for why the pig king himself is not cursed, I think he is cheating the shadows by surrounding himself with those obelisks. They seem to act as a sort of "lightning rod" for the shadows and may even be preventing the transformation like Wilba's Pendant.

This is a really good theory.

The pig king consumes the food that you bring him through untraditional methods of harnessing and releasing magical energy, Aka: he can “phase” the food out of existence by holding it and it magically appears in his Belly, this same special power is used to form gold out of thin air (haven’t you ever read the story about anything that some king touches turns to gold? Including his own living relatives?)

Anyway- He probably takes all those useless trinkets and nasty Halloween candies you give him and turns them into Gold.
