Geometric Placement + Gesture Wheel + Controller Updates sounds pretty awesome for an update if you ask me. The fact we're getting more than that is a nice extra bonus though~

everyone is probably still gonna stick with the workshop versions, no reason not to

Except everyone in consoles, or the people who just prefer to play vanilla instead of modded, or the people who like running way too many mods and that can always appreciate reducing the number of mods to reduce strain on the server, reduce chances of the world not generating at all, or who don't want mod conflicts and the like.

It's absurd how an arc that started out controversial because it was strangely incomplete, continued to be incomplete and directionless throughout its duration will also end up incomplete. Some will say that we can't see the bigger picture, even though it's been 2 years since the first big picture that supposedly no one understood at the time, anyway we're in the final moments of that big picture and it seems like it simply didn't exist.

It would be nice to have a summary of the updates related to rifts as a whole, if you stretch it a bit we are not much beyond that first update that caused so much commotion that Klei had to apologize and explain themselves, despite it having been 2 years since then I don't feel like there's that much more besides like the moon mutated bosses and the shadow counterpart which is the same size

I want to see more mutations, more alien-type **** spawning and all that. Many people hate the Deadly Brightshades (and I understand why learn to make baits lol), but to me they are awesome, they do feel like an alien threat from space invading The Constant or whatever, and I wanted to see more unique threats like that.

I feel like Wagstaff kind of ruined this aspect from the surface rifts, rather than staying as the inventor that "helps us deal with the rift" he just rushed the entire thing with an experiment. Gestalts possesing machines is cool but, weren't the organic mutations the main point of the moon side? Like thats what the Funny plants and the Possesed mutations are.

My schizo theory is that the devs, after 2 years of working with this, want to take a break, which is fine, I bet these past updates were a pain. That they will "pause" surface rifts with this, move on to do the same with shadow rifts, and maybe they will continue it later down the road after some updates that aren't restrained by the rifts.

But if this truly is the end of the surface rifts arc... it feels really lackluster.

The problem I have with that is that dst has been out since what like 2017.. and it’s just NOW getting better optimization? It feels like one of those cases of too little too late if you ask me.

kinda like how when they FINALLY added animals to GTA Online no one really plays it anymore cause we all ready for GTA 6?

Dont get me wrong.. it’s better late than never with DST controller optimizations, or official gesture wheel for PC but honestly these should had been a Week Two patch update at the game launch or whatever..?

For what it's worth, I believe Mike made a post some time back about how he has been kinda disinterested in DST as a whole and not really playing it much.

So, "too little too late" might be referring to "not enough to get Mike back to playing the game actively", which is a fair argument, I'd say.

... I agree with your overall point though. For anyone who is actively playing the game, those changes are great~

I could have misinterpreted Mike's position though. He can correct me if I misunderstood though~

Ah yeah, I getcha - I considered that but I think I settled on it just being a snappy sentence for him to say, I was playing though. I'm a big fan of Mike - he's a nice guy

What I meant is that in order to obtain some of the best skins in this game: A console player has to torture themselves by watching twitch streams of PC players playing “the superior version of the game”

Mods are one thing… and it’s understandable why we don’t have that.

But what has NEVER been acceptable to me is how some features that work extremely well on PC Version barely work or don’t work at all for console.

Two such examples: Did you know you can Drag & Drop Wood into the water to distract swarms of Cookie Cutters? Or Did you know you can Drag & Drop Meat over a Gnarwail to befriend it and get it to happily Bob about in the water head butting useful stuff onto the deck of your boat?

These features don’t exist on Xbox.

Dont even get me started on the distance of casting spells, soul hops, fishing rods etc…

Then to rub salt into the open wound, they create entire character skill trees that heavily rely on how well you can control your (currently very limited) movement/teleportations.

I hope that next weeks patch update makes the game more enjoyable for controller users.

But then again I’m a #Wendy Main and after Klei made playing as her slower and worse for controller players, when they added the whole “Command Wheel” with her Skill Tree, I do NOT have much hope.

Let’s see if Klei puts their money where their mouth is, next week we get controller optimization QoL, but I’m curious to know if it will cover the two above mentioned Drag & Drop features that aren’t possible, or if the more likely scenario: Klei forgot all about us not being able to do all that.

Then why is he still here in the forum?

I am playing sincs DS Vanilla on PC, but when DST came out for the PS4, so I changed to console, so I waited for "geometric placement mechanics" for an eternity.

And now I am happy as hell. If its to little to late for him, than he should just do something else. Mike is a strange pal.

You don’t fully understand the entire depths of just how badly not being able to do these “seemingly simple” tasks can impact playing on consoles without a Keyboard and Mouse.. it pretty much impacts and harms the entire Ocean Experience, because if you spend a lot of time out at sea, you will eventually pile a lot of useless junk on the deck of your boat, and if you were playing on PC you can literally just drop that stuff right off your boat and back into the water, on CONSOLE you either have to build a storage chest & put the junk inside which takes up placement room on the boat for other structures, OR you can stop the boat, build a Grass Raft (which will eventually eat up your grass by the way..) place the junk on the grass raft, and let it break over time, to accomplish what for PC is fast, quick and effective, all without them having to stop the movement of their boat.

Now you may be asking: It’s useless Junk on a boat.. why does it matter? Well- Because unfortunately: The button to pick up that useless junk (or attempt to pick it up if your inventory is already full…) is Bound to the same button that interacts with the structures ON your boat (like the very important Anchor to drop & prevent smashing into crap)

And what frustrates me so much is that several years ago… (probably way back when boats were first added to DST) I brought this to Klei’s Attention and even gave them a Solid Solution to the Issue: Simply holding down the Inspect button for a few seconds could have pulled up a virtual on-screen mouse clicker icon we could perform drag & drop features like the ones mentioned above, or directional & distance aimed Wortox teleportations with.

Despite what a lot of people on this forum would lead you to believe: I’m not just some rambling idiot who likes to complain for complaining sake, I’m trying to improve the CONSOLE experience of a game that was clearly designed with PC in mind first and Foremost.

TBH with you, console versions of the game will only be great when it's no longer updating anymore. And even after that, it's a MAYBE. It's no use trying to argue with a fanbase that's 90% PC players, whose don't care about us (developers atleast try to care).

So either stop playing console versions like me, and never play it until it's better. Or keep endlessly complaining until a miracle happens.

Or perhaps there is a third more sinister option where you play console and enjoy it still but maybe that’s just me

Good for you then. But i can't stand a game where even IF you're playing alone, you're actually hosting 2 different servers, causing input lag and not being able to run from anything cause you're getting hit across screen, and not being able to kite since you're always gonna take damage when you try doing that. Playing solo like i'm playing on someone else server is not fun in any way. And that's never gonna change, cause you either change the game's spaghetti code or either bring in the option to disable caves when not playing on them, just like some PC Mods.

But whatever. I'm not forcing myself to play it, and i'm happily waiting until the day my problem is solved.
