Best places to start are either joining random hosted lobbies to see if you vibe well with them or large gatherings of people in dedicated servers. Those worlds don't last long but at least gives you enough time to glue yourself to some people and figure out the vibe if you wanna stick with them longer or not.

Discord servers, irl, forum, youtube, just joining random worlds there are a lot of options even though they all kinda suck this game really suffers from being popular but not popular enough to easily find people to consistently play with

Well more accurately the game is EXTREMELY popular overseas, but has a fairly small following in the US.

I guess you can thank TenCent?

Try setting a goal for yourself that'll last maybe 20-30 days or so that won't take too much of your brainpower, and finding some public server to do it in. Try talking to people about what's on your mind, especially asking people questions. People love to answer questions about themselves or what they've been doing IRL/Ingame, and love it when you say something about it back even if it doesn't hold much water. Sooner than you think, you will have formed a decent enough connection with a few people (hopefully in your timezone) that will be able to play with you.

Socializing can be fun, go on and try it at your pace!
