How Did Nobody Catch This?

Okay, this isn't the most game breaking thing in the world, but it's still VERY jarring. I had to do an IRL double take when I first saw this. Is Wes so underplayed that it's gone unmentioned? It certainly doesn't feel intentional.

He meant that Wes is talking

I think they are saying because wes can't read signs  so he should not have the text of him reading the message.  But that text is not part of the character talking

Yeah, I just found that out on my current run. Weird that he makes an exception for the bottles, though.

nope! i still have never found out what the thing sign in the hamlet lawn setpiece says after 6 years of playing ds.

Perhaps Pearl yelled really loudly into a bottle and closed it really quickly thus keeping the audio of her message in the bottle as well, that's how I'm interpreting how the text is appearing above Wes because him actually reading it out would just be blasphemy.
