Farm plot big crops should give us full crop value of crop instead of dropping seeds

Recommended Posts

I don't see many people argue different to this but I think it's dumb that we grow these huge crops and we get less value than just stone fruits or kelps or any other method of farming food that planting seed crops give us less in comparison.

I think that instead of giant crops should be dropping 2-3 crops plus seeds they should just drop all crops. Like giant potato being worth 5 potatoes instead of two to three.

I can make more seeds on my own, I just want to farm lots of food and then move on.

The constant need to put in this much effort isn't worth it sadly. I love the farming mechanics but I think rewards for growing well should be tuned for the better to align with the rest of cheaper foods we get around the Constant.

I also feel we are getting too much seed back and not enough actual veggies/fruits. That is just too much surplus.

I would be happy with just maxing the given seeds to 2. The crops should be just +1.

If we want to make it a bit more complicated. We can add a fertilizer item during the growing phase(s) so we get all crops (~5-6) and no seeds.

Other games could also be inspirational in farming. For example in project zomboid there is an additional growing phase (seed bearing) between harvestable and rotted. This phase gives massive amount of seeds but little crop compared to a normal harvestable seed/crop yield.

I really want to see more crops (5-6) and less seeds (2) at giants, just naturally balancing it would be fine for most of the players in my opinion. However, it would be great to have a tool/fertilizer that makes sure the chances are reversed. It would make farming rare seeds much rewarding even at the beginning (if done correctly).

No joke, don't underestimate crop seeds! They give the same 9.375 hunger value as honey does and take just as long to spoil. I usually set aside seeds for replanting, then use the remaining ones for hunger, while the actual crops go into dishes that focus on sanity/health.

I won't deny that crop seeds make decent snack, but it's more to be both able to cook more refined foods as well as bringing in more value from farming overall.

In my belief is that farming is kinda lagging behind just foraging. Even that tweak being big enough maybe not to topple foraging but at least bring crop farming on par with it. Refined foods that can be gotten from basically anything with legs or crap found growing anywhere basically brings astonishingly less effort and quicker preparations.

theres a lot you can do with seeds, like feed bird and rot bin or as a snack

wormwood can just plant the extra seed on regular turf as free food

but yeah, i think making all big crop be 3 veggie and 2 seed guarantee is fine

It's not as fun to just chow down seeds all the time tho, people farm in farms for the sake of supplying selves for a lot more stable and longterm foods/making tons of cooked dishes for stats and food compression.

I don't see that many people caring about seeds because meatballs just feel easier and more satisfying to eat. For me I like cooked potatoes due to their great value and shelflife, I don't like that it costs so many to make puree but it is how it is and the ones that rot go into that.

If my food spoils I can just put it as well into the bin. Seeds are not only ones great for putting into bins, but the point is - more crop we get from effort the more value the farms will shine in instead of promoting junkfood.

im not defending the too many seed issue, just suggesting some ideas for you to make use with the extra seeds you get.

(puree is fine because is a long lasting food that gives 3 stats, a good long trip food in general)

That's fair. I'm stating that I know the uses of these things and where I could apply them, but also trying to make a case as to why babysitting my plants should feel more rewarding.

i do think the issue isnt too big as if you are baby sitting plants , you should have multiple plots of plants growing all at once. yielding stacks of food that you might never be able to finish without them rotting

You could just neglect your next round of crops to use up the seeds.

usually, just by replanting them(if you got giant crops), you get another round of +2 seeds, since it means that it is balanced in nutrients.

It is a lot of extra work when putting already a lot of extra work into nutrients, watering, babysitting, etc. Ofc I can do this but in my view that would neglect the actual issue I'm stating.

I think a great compromise would be to have certain vegetables have different yield ratios, so crops with really garbage cooking recipes can work well as staple crops.
Say carrots only ever gave 1 seed, but could be planted directly without needing seeds (With other root vegetables also working as seeds, but not giving yields due to being really strong already. All it saves is some bird micro.)

Similarly, stuff like pumpkins, asparagus, and corn which have disappointing foods also are just high yield crops when large or giant (+1 for large, pumpkins get +2 for being giant.)
Some crops could regrow as giants (Or large crops) if partially harvested with a razor (Such as corn, asparagus) giving a small number of bush like outputs before rotting so if you were careful you could get a lot out of giant staples.

Something to make farming slightly more competitive with the absurd bushes we have now.
