What would you rather have the next update be focused on?

  1. 1. What is your preference for the focus of the next major update?

    • Optimization (less lag from Webber spiders, items on the ground, things like sproutrocks and above-average trees, etc), even if this means little to no actual new content this update.

    • Cave update (new biomes, overhauling old biomes, fixing the ruins to be like DS, boss balance adjustments, etc).
      18
    • 2-3 skill trees (specify which characters you want to get them, please).
      9
    • Surface update (updating old biomes, adding more ocean content, etc).

What it says in the title: if you could pick Klei's focus for the next update, what would you have them do? Would you postpone new content to give them time to optimize the game and fix lag issues, would you rather just keep the skill tree train going until it's done, or would you like to see updates to old biomes or new ones being added? Or something else?

I voted skill trees cause I want them to finish them already, and in the mean time they could then work in a big big cave generation overhaul to make the ruins specifically look more like a secluded area, and making monkey villages more complete and full.

I think the surface only really needs like a piece of land as big as a whole biome. A fix for the world being too small to contain biomes making them intersect each other and 2 new whole biomes accessible through the mainland after rifts are open (like the rifts caused this biome to appear in the ocean, drying out the water or something, there could also be a beach formation as well).

I also want (and many people too) new seasons that comes with the rifts.

they should also update the midgame to give better incentive for completing pearl quests and assembling the portals. Something more like a side-quest rather than this cc and afw quests being the main thing. Werepig was a great start but they forgot about him or maybe his quest isnt done yet but I hope to see a way to understand what hes searching for and what he found down there.

I would like for them to continue working on skill trees and also do a revision on the old ones.

Im not sure if klei could afford it but in a perfect world they'd be able to afford a third party to develop them. One which could also work on the balance side of things a bit more closely.

Smash ultimate did this when the previous iteration was way too lax on the balance side of things. Obviously, balance is far more important in that type of game than compared to dst...

But that would really free them up to work on everything else.

If money is an issue I wonder if the community would band together to fund things... although I'm not sure how this would be handled.

Ideally I want them to do 1-2 skill tree along with other updates, like they did with Wigfrid and Willow’s ones. I think this should be the perfect balance for those who want to have new content to the world and for those who want the skill trees to be completed ASAP.

As for other updates go, the update I want most is actually new natural hazards post-rift, which is not included in the options, so I vote for skill trees instead.

I'm kind of hoping the next update will focus on fleshing out the surface rifts, similar to what they did for Depths of Duplicity, adding new mobs, items, and maybe even rift events that spice up gameplay. Compared to the cave rifts, there's not a lot to interact with on the surface.

pretty sure someone here on the forum would pay klei to let them work on the skill tree lol

Personally, I'd like a surface rifts update. Shadow rifts feel finished and enjoyable, Lunar rifts are kinda bad. Lunar rifts just don't feel as fleshed out, I know they had that big list of bosses and enemies to change into lunar variants which would be cool to add some more enemies to the list of spark ark quest fulfillment. (I don't like waiting a full year for one ark) Lunar as of right now is just kinda... annoying? you get brightshades that exist to pester your plants, and moon glass rain that hurts a lot, but can be beaten by standing under a tree for 3 mins. and uh, that's it aside from the 3 lunar bosses.

Shadow brings a ton of different enemies, a more dangerous version of cave-ins(preventable with pillars), and its own dangerous rain. (with multiple solutions unlike lunar hail) It also adds some very innovative tools like the umbralla, scythe, and even beefalo armor/revives.

Lunar just gives 2 tools duct taped together with a higher durability. Best lunar items are the bearger bin for good food storage, and the smasher because 600 use hammer is nice.

They're all good update focuses, most of which are just a matter of time before they're announced. I did vote for optimization, though, as that's the type of update that's least likely to be spontaneously initiated without consistent feedback from the playerbase on performance being an issue, mostly about the issues you've put in parentheses.

I think it would be kind of cool to see some more verity, maybe some hardcore or weird biomes or more diversity in enemies with unique mechanics. Set pieces with unique hazards. I think the original don't starve did great with switching it up with the portals. The rifts are cool for changing the world up, but I think the sudden and drastic change was pretty exciting. With more people in the game, I think the difficulty spike could be higher. Maybe we could see a less stable side of the constant.

The from beyond update was great, really hoping they end that part of the story with a bang to rev up to something. It would be a bit of a bummer for me to see the momentum they built up with the story updates end on a soft note. Maybe a choice to aid the shadow, lunar, or survivors side to effect the entirety of the world? Just spit balling here.

There's people here who would pay klei for them to STOP working on skill trees lol.

All in all it would never work out, maybe.

Actually yeah, i forgot about this. More mutants would be nice. Moonstorms kind of count as additional rift content i guess but the overlay is annoying to look at.

'Big'. There was like 9 mobs mentioned in that list. Compared with 'lunar rifts should change everything within their area into a lunar variant instead of uprooting and destroying things' suggestion people have given day one of the taking root beta, that's pathetic of the devs

Is it pathetic for a dev team to stick to their own vision for a feature instead of immediately rushing to add the most obvious suggestion that everyone came up with day 1?

yeah, when their vision of a feature is pretty much the bare minimum that feature could bring to the game
