Again, NO ONE gives up inventory space.

i give up inventory space, quite often aswell. The main issue with other body slot clothing is that theyre simply not good, even if im not using a backpack there are lots of cases where i just have nothing useful keep in that slot because the only remotely useful clothes are the ones giving high tier season protection (rain coat, puffy vest, floral shirt).

Making clothes useful doesnt require a massive fundamental change in the game. The only change needed is a generic buff to most body slot items.

14 slots is completely worthless most of the time. I use backpacks at the start of the world when I'm exploring everything, when I'm taking a bunch of stuff back up from the ruins, and when I'm doing major construction projects. That's basically it.

You can also just... leave stuff on the ground? You don't always need to carry the resource equivalent of entire bases in your inventory. Players change temperatures much faster than thermal stones, and clothing items will keep you warmer/cooler for longer. All of them are also one-time investments, that later require minimal maintenance.

What is preventing you from dropping a backpack on the boat/having a chest? You are on a boat, the only way to traverse the sea is to move the piece of land you are standing on. Your backpack moves with your boat independent of whether you wear it or not. You don't have to wear it for it to store items. You do have to wear belts, funcaps, and vests to slow down your hunger drain.
