Woby or not Toby

  1. 1. Do you ride Woby?

    • I haven't tried new Walter. I'm only here for the ambience.

    • I only ride Woby. Why bother with a beefalo? Woby has made them obsolete.

    • As Walter, I only ride a beefalo. All of Woby's new bells and whistles are cool, but she still just doesn't compare.

    • As Walter, I ride both a beefalo and Woby often. They both have unique traits too valuable to give up.

    • As Walter, I ride neither Woby nor a beefalo. It's too much hassle/It's just not appealing.

Beefalo is a completely valid way to play Walter, but I personally think it's fairly redundant since Woby synergizes better with Walter's playstyle. That being said, his skill tree is very competitive, so I'd understand getting a beefalo so that you don't have to use skills on Woby

I think Woby is a pretty good alternative now, the only drawback is that you are still at risk for getting bucked off compared to a Beefalo but, she has dashes and really good speed to help with that, also shes cheaper to maintain now

I still like Beefalos tho, before the skill trees I was one of the first (if not THE first) to make use of Pudgys with Walter, using an "enlightened crown + cursed rounds + pudgy + thul armor" strat. I think its pretty memey but also unironically good (even more so now that he has faster attack speed) so I will probably still use pudgy beefalo sometimes just because of that big sanity aura.

Heres a meme image, sorry for the ugly floor, it got added by the Lamb update and had to try it lol

This is a really funny tech. I never considered doing this, and I'm still not sure if it's very good, but it is very hipster.

before the tree revamp, you can do this tech with a support 1+2 badge woby but yeah i'll gladly take what we have now :flustered:

how about, i only ride woby because i don't like the beefalo taming mechanic and/or i don't need what they give me (fighting, riding, sanity). especially fighting, i don't want to sit on a beef and fight (melee)

Me who rides woby because I just like her more:

:)

What about... Woby for riding, beefalo as a pet?

Before the skill tree the pudgy beef can be used as a mount in combats as well. Now I only keep them as pets.

Glad to see that im not the only one doing it.

Combat focused beefs are nice for a few reasons, one the dung means I don't have to take pit stops to gather fuel, woby always has fire with retriever. Portable fire + Beefalo + Retriever = You are never cold, drying off is trivial. You'll still have an extra stack of poop to give the guy who thinks monocropping potatos is peak gameplay.
Furry forager goes from being a controversial meme to an amazing pick when you have a beefalo because you:

  • Aren't reduced to walking speed when picking things.
  • You can pick double free cactus, walter now owns the oasis/badlands I don't write the rules.
  • You get a food overhead thats big enough that feeding the cow food items makes sense to fight spoilage, making your sticks/grass economy so much better.

Helping horns is also nice when the food cost doesn't have any potential downside of reducing your mobility, you can just run woby down to mine faster.

Plus you still can use the horns as a melee when a fights not worth swapping to the slingshot for, like for most hunting enemies, hounds, etc etc.

In servers where I am more in a rush to complete base building tasks like setting up resource generators, find ocean objectives and the like, and I can count on someone else to frontline, I'll use pure woby and drop the furry forager until I can respec after taming a beefalo in the summer.

Woby forever for me, though I'm biased since I was also not taming a beefalo before the change (the beefalo bell is not present in DS and I have a weird phobia about leaning on cheap DST-exclusive tools to do things that are possible in the base game. Not saying that any of you are playing the game "wrong" obviously, just explaining myself). I love sprinting and I love winter insulation.

I also find it kind of interesting that the patch theoretically took away some of the abilities that Woby as a mount had with the badge system, and yet people seem generally more inclined to use Woby than before. Woby lost sanity regeneration and hit tolerance, and in exchange she gained some more speed, ways to make feeding her easier, and winter insulation. Not saying I'm surprised, because it makes sense since people who wanted those things from a mount would just tame a beefalo, just interesting to see how priorities work out.

Another issue is the badges took time. Time that could have been spent taming a beefalo instead, so another setback to using badge Woby.

But now it just costs insight, which is a little sad because the badge system was cool, but I think there was no saving it, too complicated and limiting compared to just, having the skills.

I guess a hidden advantage of choosing a beefalo instead of Woby is you can save alot of skilltree points.

Theres two skills that do their absolutely more if you don't use woby its a lot more than that.
Walters got so many playstyles its absurd.
