Lunar Walter

Recommended Posts

Currently, I think Lunar Walter is a bit lacking atm. Sure, he has fast Woby; however, the ammos and the slingshot in general is my issue.

Firstly, pure brilliance rounds are not strong enough. its an additional 5 planar damage to only already planar attacks. It sorta conflicts if you wanna use like any other ammo, besides dreadstone. If the damage increase can't be boosted to maybe around 10, same as shadow Abigail's vex, could it atleast apply to all attacks?

Secondly, there's just alot more benefits that exclusively Walter gets from doing shadow stuff. He gets a grip that increases the damage of one of his affinity rounds AND another round from another skill not locked behind any affinity (dreadstone) + a band that increases ammo efficiency. Lunar gets nothing really. No grip, no band, he gets scrappier frame but its not very good. A brightshade grip would be cool; it could either start out fast and start slowing, opposite to void, or it could be a flat increase to RoF that's more than jelly, but less than void's max, similar to how the melee rift weapons' damage acts. As for bands, not really sure. I do wish that there can be a midgame band though with a neat effect because currently its 2 pretty early game bands and then one allllll the way hidden in shadow rifts.

Lunar woby is several degrees better than shadow woby so I think lunar side is the better affinity for Walter now. Pure horror rounds are ok but nothing special and while ick rounds are awesome, Walter can just as easily use slowdown rounds instead.

Pure brilliance rounds have decent damage and brightshade husk rounds have nice base damage with fast attacking vines meaning you don't need to slow bosses.Pure brillance rounds can boost planar melee damage if you decide to use shadow maul for example.

The main advantage of these rounds is that you no longer have to travel to caves to stock up on pretty powerful day to day damage rounds, they are a lot more accessible than the shadow side.

To sum it up, ick is great but the convenience of brightshade husk rounds doing high damage without needing a slow down effect and ease of obtaining them and lunar woby being 1000x times better than shadow woby makes lunar the better side for Walter.

Lunar Woby definitely has consistent speed but Shadow Woby has more utility in caves and certain world gens they both have their own advantages however when it comes to the rounds shadow just wins hands down even ignoring icker pure horror rounds are just a evolution of glass rounds dealing 70 to 90 damage over time per stack in a larger aoe while the lunar side only offers raw dps and not enough to meaningfully separate it from cursed in most cases.

I think Walter would benefit greatly from buffing shadow Woby and buffing Lunar Walter's ammos to achieve a nicer balance of shadow vs lunar
Shadow woby is cool, and flashy, but I think that just like pre-Wickerbottom refresh Wortox... She's just very meh and niche.

Walter's lunar side goes well in combination with the shadow side, at least if you play with a shadow Walter alongside you, since the debuff applies to planar damage Pure Horror rounds also deal that extra damage. I do agree that the lunar side needs some tuning, maybe adding a Lunar Grip or Frame could help. Although, I think it would be a little bit difficult with the Lunar Frame, because I'm pretty sure the Scrappy Frame is technically the 'lunar side' of frames.

I think what differentiates both sides more is accessibility. Since you can access the shadow side much earlier than the lunar one. Sadly, because of how the game progression is structured, a lot of characters probably suffer from this as well.
