Grateful for the Walter update.

Recommended Posts

I had some doubts, but as always, klei delivered :D

The tree looks really awesome now, and for the first time in a while I am struggling to pick what I want, heh. Probably gonna have several builds for different occasions(pubs, solo, friend server).

Anyway, all that aside, I just wanted to express my gratitude for a great update worth the wait! :D

Agreed it's saying something when my biggest complaint about Walter's tree right now is deciding on what to spend my points on haha...seriously though it's actually hard... :(

If  only that was the case for others within the update.

Changes look really cool, but does give me really mixed feelings about how the rest of the beta has gone.

A lot of Wendy's tree is really good, but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't wish they'd gone back to the drawing board and done something similar for Wendy's tree. Instead we got a lot of gradual changes to the tree which were good, but resulted in some skills being stuck having a role in the tree that really should've gotten overhauled, like the graves, Potions 3 & 4 and blessed sisturn 3.

It also highlights a lot of hippocracy, as people who were being very toxic about the devs "ignoring" walter were being just as toxic as the people advocating for Wendy changes, except they got what they were advocating for without compromises.

That said, that's nothing to do with the update itself, which is really good and sorely needed.

true... I think I'm gonna sacrifice a bunch of slingshot stuff for my builds, cause honestly I love utility skills more than fighting skills, and damn there's a good amount of Woby/Camping skills to choose from.

I'm currently thinking of spending 3 points into ammo(shatter rounds for cheap affordable ammo, slingshot customisation and grips for some neat shotspeed), then maxxing out Woby except for the affinity(not sure what to take yet), and all scouting skills. gonna trade off Pioneer's panache for Woby delivery once it is functional, and might sacrifice either portable campfire or the ropes for the affinity if I want one.

I also have sort of a mixed build, but I am not too sure in that one yet.

Of course I still might go with some slingshot builds, they're gonna be pretty nice with the pouch and all now, but it all depends on what my plans are, and while lately I've been doing much more fighting, I'm all in for having an opportunity to just chill and survive.

I can't really speak for Wortox as I didn't really mess around with his much but the only skill I can say I didn't want for Wendy was vengeful ghost so there was still a choice to be made for me. Though to be fair the rope efficiency skill seems kinda worthless as well but I'm not going to complain about that since that's what people wanted...

I'm really torn too the Woby skills are so good but it is a steep investment kinda like what they did with Bernie but then the slingshot is a steep investment too...

As far as scouting goes I'm down to field medic, Woby treats, and the drying rack. The other ones are alright but not good enough for me personally.

I thought so as well at first but honestly I can see myself picking it sometimes lol. So many things use rope. Then again, I never exactly struggle with grass so idk.

I am not very interested in the hat buff, but I'll give the campfire and the rope a try, and see how it goes.

As far as my complete thoughts on the scouting branch goes

  • The hat buff is good but I don't think it's good enough to really justify the hat for me it's buff definitely helps with sanity management though
  • The drying rack just seems like a must have skill it's the one skill I'll always make room for
  • Field medic is just really good makes me think back to Wurt's bloodshots and while you don't get as much out of it as the combination skill that's the mosquito branch the heal is much stronger but again skill points are tight so it's still a hard sell for me
  • Woby treats seem like a neat idea since you won't have to stockpile meat as much though with how tight skill points are it's a hard sell for me
  • The portable campfire I feel like it's silly but it's what people wanted so I won't complain
  • The rope is more or less the same for me

Despite me not quite likely the last two overall the branch definitely ended up better overall than what I was expecting when I saw most of the pitches for it.

and then the 2 affinities.

Definitely do not agree, this is huge exaggeration.

My reasoning for putting Wortox below is also just that he has a few skills that literally don't do anything, but he's also pretty great.

It isn't really  there are 7 skills for potions 6 for afinities. 4 for team 3 for sisturn  3 for wreath and 3 for graves?
What  should it really be?

Is that not what Walter got? His entire scouting branch really comes down to boosting his chores via making his stuff cheaper/longer lasting and Woby got a bunch of qol and a new ability via new forms like Abigial. You can't really count his slingshot stuff because that's just them fixing what was wrong with the character which isn't something Wendy specifically needed.

Eh at this point I think in terms of quality:

Wendy = Walter > Wortox

It's a bit early to tell conclusively but for me at least, Wendy's trees suffers from the gradual nature of the tree, rather than all at once rework.

For example, why do graves produce evil flowers? It was originally synergy with the dark petals line, but that's been removed. It's not even useful for NF production anymore, because haunt completely outclasses that skill.

Why is Wendy the worst user of vengeful ghost? It's her own skill, she should be dealing more damage/other perks than the regular survivors, as it's her own perk.

Why is potions 4 doubling potions? It has nearly a 100% overlap with Pipspook 3.

And thats really what had killed the wendy tree

the rework require voices to Wendy's tree is always here from the very beginning, but this never happened to Wendy even after the thing happened to Walter as we see now.

Yes many "mini" tweak suggestions to Wendy was accept and changed, but I have to say there's a particular feedback of Wendy are always been ignored - which those suggestions need much effort to implement. (yes, the mutation of Lubby is one of these things. but it's only one)

I'm very confusing when ppl say "Wendy's tree is high quality" while the survey in general discussion always proved that Wendy's tree is one of 4 most unwelcomed tree of DST.

I don't really care for the hat as I said, but it's nice to have the option there for those who liked "bravery" badge.

Drying rack seems nice, though not a musthave for me. I do think I will use it a lot, since it makes Woby treats much more convenient to make. Treats themselves are something I wanted for years, so I am definitely using them.

I usually use healing items over foods, so field medic seems like a nice fit for me, if it impacts the healing from applying healing items to other players, I am definitely taking this one.

Campfire and ropes I've already mentioned, it's probably not a must have, but I'll give it a try regardless.

The healing item should work on other players since it's medicine other than that I wasn't trying to dissuade you from picking the skills I was just giving my personal thoughts on them my bad if it came off that way.

oh, dw I understood what you meant, I was just sharing my thoughts on them.

All of the skill trees have tiny complaints that some people have that a lot of people disagree on.  Most of these I would put there.  Like "why is Wendy the worst user of vengeful ghost?". To support her team.  This is like asking why Wortox has abilities to increase his healing range, when that doesn't benefit him at all, and he should get the most benefit.  It's a team game, having skills that help the team more is totally fine- maybe you disagree, but my point is this stuff is all basically moot at this point and just preferences.

And it's clearly better than Wortox's tree that still has skills that literally do nothing.

Please stop referencing these polls where half the people aren't taking it seriously and just putting the option that benefits Wendy the most.  After seeing so many people select that they wanted the last update to actually make the way overturned shadow vex stronger it's pretty clear they are not serious.

tbh it's funny to see your different attitude to minority (or tiny, whatever) and majority here.

And it's impressive how people being silence when facing the soul piercing problem (11 times teleport for a Lunar Bearger kill) while they keep shouting on "balance issues" of Wendy.

I posted about that in my post asking for Wortox attention.  I'm not sure why you are replying that to me specifically?

I have no idea what you mean about the minority majority thing, but maybe just didn't understand.
