I think that telling someone that a feature is optional is fine depending on the context, there are times when players want something removed like a cheese for a boss fight that makes it too easy but it is so out there that unless you know what you are doing it won't be replicated in normal gameplay.

I like having options and don't like when game tells me that something isn't possible even when developers intended it to be that way but it is often the case that developers didn't even think that something would be possible but it is and some players want it to be removed because of that but we lose freedom and choices without gaining much since this isn't a competitive PvP game and there is the emergent gameplay that players develop over time that is so amazing to see.

I think we should start dropping anvils on people that say stuff like "If you don't like it, don't engage with it/It's just optional, you don't have to do it" and watching them get all pancake-flat and then reforming in a "boi-oi-oing" manner

Sweety, considering how thick my skull that can knock off criticisms from Anti-"Just don't use it"-nist, you need something like the Mars rather than an anvil.
