The sanity gain is useless. If you wait several hours for the oasis to become fishable then spend a crapload of resources on it (stack and a half of rocks!!) you are awarded with a whopping 0.4 sanity gain per second, but only when you're rubbing your face on it. Wendy's sisturn, way easier to make even if you count character switching, is just as good as it. Tents and siesta lean-tos, incomparably easier to make, provide almost 3x the bonus. Wearing a tam o'shanter, again way easier to get, gives a bit over a quarter the bonus, except it does this passively all the time without you needing to AFK at a stationary structure.

It is not good for sanity. It is very bad at giving sanity. It's slightly better than nothing at all, but this is not some super powerful thing that needs big drawbacks to be kept in line. The sanity bonus is negligible, especially compared to the high cost and how late you need to be in a world to even have the option of getting it. This has always been a mostly decorational item.
