Dessloch
Hi, I have a Steam turbine setup built over lava and cooled by AT with polluted water. I also built tempshift plates behind the turbines and the cooling system is made by radiant pipes. My problem is that the turbines does not cool down despite the cooling system has -1 degree celsius polluted water in the pipes. The turbines are more than 100 degree celsius, so they don't generate any power. I have the latest stable version of the game with all DLCs and without mods. I never had any problems/bugs like these. I'm using my old savefile (just activated the new DLC) and the old AT-Steam Turbine setups are working just fine, just this new setup does not cool. Any idea? imazined
Is it in a vacuum? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/162755-steam-turbine-does-not-cool-down/#findComment-1781912 Share on other sites
Dessloch
Not yet, I'm trying to pump out , but the remaining gas inside is also about 60 degree celsius. I have no idea why does it no cooling. I'll attach my savefile as soon as I get home. If you are trying to cool it down in a thin atmosphere, it won't work. Might as well make it a vacuum and use conduction panels. If you don't wanna use conduction panels, you can drop a liquid layer and have your pipes run through the liquid. This will work even without atmosphere. meekay
Yes, laying down a thin slick of liquid will allow heat to transfer between the building and the cooling pipes. I like to use petroleum or mercury because they have a wide temperature range and are dense enough to stay on the bottom even if some other liquid falls on top. As soon as I let CO2 into the room the turbines immediatly started to cool down rapidly. Thanks for the help! Even if an atmosphere/medium is present they may be detrimental to cooling, as they can act as thermal mass that slows temperature change. That is essentially the reason we got conduction panels.
