blash365
With now two new and almost unplayed DLCs in front of me, i want to take another stab at ONI. But so far, i have not made it past the cluster selection. In Spaced Out, it was an easy choice, i would always have a somewhat "balanced" choice of asteroids in my cluster. I never had a problem to start a session. Now with Ceres, i am always feeling at a loss: If i start on one of the ceres clusters, i lose an easy starting planet, hatches, dreckos or whatever my starting planet hast to offer. And even if that starting planet gets mixed into the cluster as a side-asteroid, it still takes the slot of one of the others. Same with the "mixing" feature. The ceres cluster always forces me to chose something i looked forward to in my games: Moos & Gas Grass Uranium & Refined Metal Geysers Oceans and potentially even hell, even the Regolith is an interesting challenge And of course i also dont want to miss out on the Ceres content! What i am searching for is a resource reachability matrix (similar to https://oxygennotincluded.fandom.com/wiki/Planetoid_Clusters#Planetoids_by_Clusters). I dont want to play a game in which i cannot reach one resource or critter. And i dont want to lose the iconic feeling of certain asteroids either. How do others decide which cluster (with ceres) they start in? Gurgel
If you want ceres, you will not have an easy start. That comes with the territory. Sorry. I have not tried Ceres Minor Cluster. But all of "Mini Cluster - Ceres Mantle", "Ceres Cluster" (classic) and "Blasted Ceres Cluster" (the lab) are fun. blash365
Hi again, Gurgel.;) It's not about an easy or hard start. I dont mind starting on Ceres or Terrania (remix). What is keeping me from chosing is that i am always losing one asteroid that i am used to. And i am afraid that i might miss out on content (critters, resources) that become unreachable because of the changed cluster. My dream would be a ceres or terrania cluster with the respective counterpart as an additional outer asteroid. Isn't that what the biome mixing feature is? You can mix in the biomes from Ceres into other asteroids. Tigin
The Ceres fragment does not replace the critical features of the asteroid, and is also innately Geoactive (4 additional generic geysers). For replacing the Gassy asteroid, you only lose out on some liquid/solid chlorine on generation, not the chlorine geyser/gassy meteor showers. The other replacements are not so kind, however. Only the Gassy/Tundra/Marshy/Water asteroids are eligible for replacement (not Superconductive/Regolith) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/162683-where-should-i-start-seriously/#findComment-1780979 Share on other sites

Here's an example for Terrania start: EDIT: Oh and yea it works only for other asteroids. You can mix Frosty Pack into regular and SO asteroids but not mix regular/SO asteroid features onto Ceres. You could use the Cluster Generation Manager mod that allows you to add extra asteroids to the starmap. I myself start with Ceres Minor, the start can be very chaotic but it's cool. So you are saying even if i replace the gassy meteor, i will still get the showers on the replacing ceres? Do i also still get graphite if i replace the water asteroid? 24 minutes ago, ALCRD said: That on what Asteroid start you choosen to use the Scramble option. Hm, i ll have to look into this. The benefit of this would be to get the ceres resources. But then again, you lose the Ceres-Experience, if you have an otherwise normally-temperated asteroid. :/ Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/162683-where-should-i-start-seriously/#findComment-1780992 Share on other sites

Yep, replacing the gassy asteroid is almost purely positive. For the waster asteroid, you still get graphite although it feels a little less. You lose out on the two guaranteed water geysers (and the water, obviously) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/162683-where-should-i-start-seriously/#findComment-1780995 Share on other sites

So far, this looks like the best choice for me. For reference, the gassy asteroid is 96x80, water asteroid is 80x174, tundra asteroid is 64x128, and marshy asteroid is 64x96. Maxposting
I didn't know the fragment replacement worked like that, that's neat! I do know it doesn't include the heat pump poi though, unless Klei changed that. That's correct; the heat pump is exclusive to Ceres starts, not available on the remixed Fragment.
