Applause for the Latest Changes to Wendy's Skill Tree

Recommended Posts

I'm really enjoying the recent updates to Wendy's skill tree. Here are a few highlights that stand out to me:

Aesthetic Improvements:

  • Picnic Basket: I've always loved the look of it, and now I find it even more useful. Before this update, I'd only carry one elixir (usually Revenant Restorative), but with the basket, I'm excited to bring a variety along for different situations.
  • Wraith's Wreath: This item looks absolutely adorable on Wendy. With the added sanity gain, it's not only practical but also a delight to see Wendy exploring the world in style. It adds a nice layer of personality to her character.
  • Ouija Board Skill Tree Design: I really appreciate the updated visuals here—it ties in beautifully with Wendy's longing for her sister Abigail and adds depth to her character.

Functional Updates:

  • Skill Merging: Reducing the total skill count from 28 to 25 feels like a great step. It makes the tree less cluttered and allows for more impactful skills to shine.
  • Sisturn and Lune Tree Blossoms: I love the change where filling the Sisturn with Lune Tree Blossoms gives Abigail the "player" tag for boss damage. This directly addresses the feedback about Abigail being too fragile in certain fights. It's a brilliant way to improve her survivability without compromising Wendy's playstyle.
  • Butterfly Cost Reduced: While the reduced cost of 2 Mourning Glory for a butterfly could still spark some debate, it's a step in the right direction. It shows Klei is listening and making adjustments based on player input.

I don't want to dwell too much on whether Wendy is now stronger or weaker overall, but these updates have made her skill tree feel more cohesive and truly aligned with the bond between Wendy and Abigail. It beautifully captures their story and deep connection, resonating with my affection for them as characters. The aesthetics of everything bring back memories of how I first met Wendy and the official update cinematic short featuring her. She's still the same familiar, adorable, huggy little girl who loves Banana Pops, with an unbreakable bond with Abigail. I truly appreciate the care and thoughtfulness Klei has put into these changes—it feels like the Wendy I've always imagined and cherished.

Also, from the weekly frequency of hotfixes, the responses from Klei officials, the detailed and thoughtful Game Update messages, and the accompanying Notes on Wendy's Skill Tree by the developers, it's clear to me that Klei genuinely cares about both the characters and the players. The decision to postpone the release further shows their commitment to delivering a quality experience. It's rare to see a game company take the time to sit down and engage directly with the players—you and I—on such a level. I truly appreciate the effort and dedication from the Klei team. Thank you!

I'm looking forward to the next hotfix and the January update. In the meantime, I want to wish everyone a happy winter season, a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

Cheers!

I love how the tree looks so much! they really nailed it compared to its old version, btw, using a nightshade nostrum with the elixir extender skill makes it last for 2 whole days! this is really great for exploring caves, try it out its really nice! (˶◜ᵕ◝˶)

Wow! Yes, I absolutely love the look of the board too—it's so well done! I adore the Wraith's Wreath, the basket, and honestly, just about everything.

And thanks for the amazing tip! Two whole days of bright vision with the nightshade nostrum and the elixir extender skill? That's incredible! You mean I can have a bright view for two full days in the caves? I'm so excited to try this out!!!

Just checked and yeah its 2 entire days! spectral cure all also heals for nearly a 100hp, using the elixirs on yourself with strong brew is VERY effective, remember that if you use a beefalo it frees up your head slot so you dont need to use armor, meaning you can explore them all you want thanks to a beefalo!

damn that's a lot, very convenient

Update After Weekend Playtime:
After spending some time in the beta this weekend, I wanted to share a quick follow-up. I find the skill tree very satisfying—it's well-balanced and offers meaningful choices. With only 15 insight points, I couldn't even unlock all the skills I wanted! To me, this is a great sign, as it means most of the skills feel genuinely useful and impactful. Hats off to the developers for such thoughtful design—great job! :wilson_flower:

It absolutely does compromise Wendys playstyle if you care about potions. Especially with how easy it is to get spectral cure all with the new skills.

Since the people who dont think its broken dont like using potions, nerfing the viability of potions seems the best compromise.

Theres precident too - klei went out of their way to make sure deep draught didnt buff spectral cure all so I doubt they want to buff it with this skill.

Just please remove the player tag thing on abi.

She is too op with that... You just watch her fight now, the game is not even fun anymore

You already know that can be achieved by spamming Spectral Cure-All, right? The same can be done by Character spamming DragonPie.

But in this situation you just watch and don't even fight the boss at all

He is too op...You just hold the F key since DS, the game is never fun.

Wendy was never intended to be as good as Wolfgang. And If she DOES get to be that while character like Wigfrid and Wilson and Woodie got crumbs… it’s pure Favortisim or more likely… Klei being forced to make Wendy that broken because certain people pitched a fit about it.

Wendy's role is a fighter, and is more of a fighter than Wolfgang, who can do instawork and carry heavy things, so it makes sense that she's strong in combat, and it's wrong to compare her to Wilson and Woodie, who aren't fighters.
As for Wigfrid...she already has an almost infinite AOE weapon, and HP and sanity recovery, so I don't think there's much difference in strength between her and the current Wendy.

If Abi is indeed OP, it is reasonable to see how OP Abi helps you to overcome something you can't do without her OP version.

I was asked this many times in other thread for same topic for finding some evidence from your own to see how Abi went so far on OP direction.

Could you just give out a video which recorded by your own to provide your judgement before we bring more chaos into other threads my dear?

I started to wondering why it seems there're lesser criticism for Shadow Abi than other skills - which the Shadow Abi brings far more amounts to make Wendy become more like Wolfgang.

I guess there's a reason is that "Shadow Abi is meant to be glass cannon for those who are veteran enough, but others are achievable for every average players."
