Soo, mixed colony or pure bionic?

Recommended Posts

I am currently at cycle 1000 with my 3 bionics colony on Oassisse (as usual, I am taking things slow and the last two days I did manage to run the colony overnight with no casualties) and I am wondering which way to go. Since there are 6 different bionics, I am tempted to get them all and only much later add regular dupes when food and oxygen can be made plenty.

What are your experiences or plans?

I went with my current Blasted Ceres which had only normal dupes and established colony, I think I'm gonna make my teleport asteroid a purely bionic colony. They can easily shove all the food they end up producing through the teleport, while they get a base layout optimized for them only. If it works well I'll get the tree colony purely bionic as well, with the food all going to the tree instead.

I just need to mop up all the water first :P

Mixed, all the way. Each type of dupe has its own resource pressures and a mixed colony gets to spread that out. There's enough muckroot, for example, to support a single dupe for 100-150 cycles. Conversely a single bionic only requires 200w of power, which is pretty trivial in a normal colony progressing through coal and natural gas.

I've been having some good experiences starting with standard Duplicants then bringing in Bionics after the infrastructure has some progress to it. The Power Bank and Oxygen requirements of Bionic Duplicants need to be accounted for directly, as opposed to standard Duplicants where they're fine as long as there's nonzero food and air somewhere.

Traditionally, I roll 8 Duplicants to fill various roles. I've been taking a Bionic for #8 and boosting it up in whatever role happens to be left. Cooking was fun to watch, but researching has been downright impressive.

I found that starting all bionic results in real problems to assure oxygen and power. Things can break down fast. Starting with standard dupes and setting everything up with them may really be a lot easier.
