I want Walter's theme to be a mobile base camp.

Recommended Posts

Solo play will be fun with Walter, who strengthens his SlingShot.
But in multiplayer, Walter can't do much to please other players.
Because he's busy strengthening his own SlingShot, spending resources on Rounds, and feeding Woby Monster Meats.
Some people are also busy raising Beefalo.
The only things Walter can please other players are distributing portable tents and carrying stone statues in the early stages.
If you choose Walter in multiplayer, other players will be disappointed.

But if Walter functions as a mobile base camp, other players will want to act with him.
Walter himself can be tanked by other players, so it's good for both sides.
Even without the skill tree, it already functions as a base camp to some extent for the following reasons.

・Additional storage with Woby.
・By riding Woby, Walter can carry a PiggyBag.
・There is a Portable Tent.
・At the campfire, Walter can restore everyone's sanity by telling stories.
・Walter can quickly cook food at the campfire.

If Walter's ability as a BaseCamp is strengthened, I think Walter will be chosen more often in multiplayer.
I will list the contents mentioned in other topics as well.

・Make it possible to have a Portable Camp Fire. Or reduce the cost of a campfire.
・Increase Woby's storage.
・Give Walter an ammo case so that he doesn't take up Woby's storage as a BaseCamp.
・Make it possible to make a Portable Crock Pot like Warly. The Portable Crock Pot is either an inferior version of Warly or needs to be differentiated. As an alternative, reduce the cost of the Crock Pot. Make it possible to make a campfire with cooking functionality, etc.
・Add a drying rack function to Woby

It may be overdoing it, but it would be nice if it had features such as a refrigerator and an Alchemy Engine.

Also, can someone tell me how to tag a topic?

I wanted to tag this topic with "Walter".

First, about how to tag a topic, you can use the Add Tags function when you're creating a new topic, as shown here.

I agree with the portable campfire idea, he can also upgrade it similar to that lamb idol firepit to increase the sanity gain from campfire stories. For now its 10 sanity/minute and imo its but a flavor perk, but if everyone around gets a flat +25 sanity every time walter finishes a story it would be pretty cool.

I wonder if his portable firepit can function as night light-ish station as well? adding nm fuel for black fire effect and sanity reduction (more sanity reduction with stories)

For lunar update, temperarily changing the area around him into lunar area where sanity is replaced by enlightenment could be an interesting idea.

@Crimson Hollow

Thank you for answering my question.
But I couldn't find "Add Tags" in my Google Chrome...

Your portable campfire idea is great.
Walter needs a lot of input.

And I've got another great idea!
I think it would be great if we had a Sleigh that Big Woby could carry.
On the Sleigh, we could build a Crock pot, Science Machine, Fire Pit, etc.

portable campfire and big woby = big storage(like packims!!) would be wonderful<3<3 i like this idea a lot!

This idea fits the Winters Feast event perfectly. Love it

"Let's be our own Santa this year, Woby!"

Recently when I played with my friends we decided that everyone would learn as many crafts as we can before going to the ruins so we don't have to get back for mats and crafts to the surface. I know it's already pretty common practice to learn more useful crafts beforehand, but what if Walter could be able to create temporal mini bases on the go whenever he wants?

Some ideas:
Ropemaker - Walter can craft Rope more efficiently, reducing it cost requirement from 3 to 2.

SomethigSomething1 - Walter can use 1x Rope to convert Camper's Tent into Chest.

SomethingSomething2 - Walter can use 1x Rope to convert Camper's Tent into Drying Rack.

SomethingSomething3 - Walter can use 1x Rope to conver Camper's Tent into Siesta Lean-to.

I'm not a fan of giving Walter personal Crockpot, because it's Warly's thing, but maybe something similar to Cookpot Kit (Pot Hanger + Cookpot) from the Gorge event?
You could place it over a campfire and create some dishes, requiring 3 ingredients instead of 4. If creating several new dishes for Walter would be troublesome for Klei I also have another idea:

In the Gorge event there's that thing called Stone Soup that could be his only recipe, but it would fit him perfectly, imho. Didn't know about it, but apparently there's this story about a hungry traveler visiting a village, having nothing but an empty cooking pot. Villagers don't want to share their food, but once they hear that traveler prepares a stone soup they become curious and eventually help making it by bringing a few items each. They got tricked by the traveler, but in the end the soup is shared among the traveler and all food donors and is enjoyed by everyone.

It could require 1x Rocks, 1x Vegetable and 1x Meat and would work somewhat similar to Winter's Feast Table. While everyone would stay near the cookpot, regenerating their stats, Walter could tell his campfire stories.

I don't see how many of these are helpful.

Portable compfire- so willows lighter? I already don't see many people asking for help cooking items. A campfire is just so cheap I don't see myself following a person to use their campfire or not just setting up my own.

Bigger Woby inventory- this isn't a group perk, people already don't like you going through their chesters/Wobys.

Portable crockpot- That's warly's thing and a worse crockpot doesn't sound like an item I'd want to use.

A cheaper/portable drying rack or one that can hold multiple meats might be a nice thing though.

Personally I'd like if they implemented the uncomp Walter's drying rack hat that let him dry meat on the go with it drying faster the faster you run. It fits in with don't starves original wacky nature and it'd be a useful sanity management tool he could make use up on the go via his slingshot. Also a great idea for monster jerky for Woby.

If we were talking about portable food solutions I like this idea a lot

Walter portable lean-to would be cool

as for camp upgrades maybe he could make a firefly jar or put a lantern on a tent or something as an upgrade, but not necessary. these 2 crafts would be enough on their own

seems like adding this would make the character have way too much going on, unfortunately, the ideas are cool though

i'm not sure if this is translated and thus badly worded as a result, but i do think that people ought to acknowledge that a character doesn't need explicit multiplayer utility to contribute to other players... and i don't think anybody should care about what character you pick

I disagree with that, Walter is definitely a really good support and damage dealer now, for Multiplayer I think most people will be amazed after seeing all the new things he does, hes the only character that can now do consistent ranged damage in a bossfight, also has unique slows (that helps the melee players to dodge attacks), aoe freeze, aoe damage, even electric damage, and a group buff when it comes to the brightshade rounds.

I dont understand this, isn't a portable campfire already a thing? you can carry a built campfire on the craft menu. And 12 rocks + 2 logs is pretty cheap, there are many ways you can farm rocks and spam campfires everywhere on the map. I think a better idea would be like, a kit to upgrade a campfire so it has bigger light area or the fuel lasts for longer, that would be way more useful

Those 2 would be really cool, specially the ammo bag, Woby is supposed to have this "extra storage" but now we have to waste half of that on the new ammo lol. I would really like an ammo case

Thanks!
When I play Walter in multiplayer, I find that I'm most useful to my team when I'm with other players.
When other players' inventory is full, I put it in Woby or stack common resources.
When I'm with other players, it's cheaper to use one campfire per night.
You should take advantage of these abilities of Walter.

I think up to 2 or 3 sleighs can be connected together.
Players will need to think carefully about what to put on the limited number of sleighs.
If nothing is put on a sleigh, other players will be able to ride on it.

You're right, it's not good to take away privileges from Warly, and I think this is a very good alternative.

I understand your point.

The 2 logs and 3 grass option is certainly cheaper.
The 2 logs and 12 rocks option is not available many times in the early stages.
I also spend the early nights burning nearby trees rather than making a campfire.
But the Portable Campfire is beginner-friendly and I thought I could save more.

It's definitely difficult to use Woby with other players.
You need to communicate closely with your close friends.

The Portable crockpot is a Warly privilege, so it would be nice to have an alternative...

It seems like a lot of people want Walter's drying rack.

Sorry if my language is bad...
English is not my native language.
You are right, everyone should choose the survivor they like without worrying about other players.
But what I wanted to say is that I want to help other players with Walter's ability as Pinetree Pioneer.

That's right. Walter has the ability to slow down enemies and deal damage to them.
I respect your opinion, but my opinion is as follows.

There are other survivors who are good at dealing damage.
Walter being a survivor who is good at dealing damage doesn't seem to have much of a personality other than the fact that he uses SlingShot.

When Walter hits the boss with SlingShot, the boss walks towards Walter.
Because of that movement, the teammate who was kiting has to chase the boss or gets the timing wrong.
So my Walter is a bit of a nuisance to other players in battle.

But for me, it's okay if Walter's combat power is a little weak.
Because Walter doesn't like pain and is kind to monsters.
Also, I believe that even if Walter's personality is not good at combat, he has other attractive personalities.

I would love to have an ammo pouch, my favorite thing about the Woby is the storage, so filling it up with ammo materials makes me sad.
