No character swap game rule?

Recommended Posts

I think that would be a neat thing for solo worlds where you want to stick to one character only
and you wouldn't have to pretend that Winona's spotlights and Wicker's books ain't available

but celestial portal would still have a point, because you could adjust your skilltree depending on the game stage you are in

I feel it would make such voluntary experience more authentic and immersive

I wouldn't mind a setting being added for this. Might end some of the future portal debates. This doesn't seem like something anywhere near kleis mind unless they do a qol in the future however.

I know it's nowhere near to be a priority... but I thought it would be good to "wink" at Klei that such thing is even considered by anyone
Who knows? maybe one day they could be like "Why not" and sneak it in among the updates x)

I'm confused why this would be a needed feature for solo worlds.

If you don't want to change characters on a solo world, the solution is don't change characters on your solo world.

Because it feels like playing minecraft survival with commands enabled

yes you can ignore it, but the consciousness you could go for /gamemode 1 anytime taints the experience for me personally

and I didn't say it's "needed" like as if it's a priority
but a "maybe" if it's not that demanding at best

normally i ignore posts like this because there isnt much point in arguing over a vibes-only suggestion  but it feels weird and kinda creepy when people say they have so little self control that they demand someone else take responsibility and force them to stop doing something that already requires effort to do. there is absolutely no possible way to accidentality character-swap. it can only be done with intent.why can't you just not go out of your way to collect resources and build the postern?

A research, and by research I mean one guy in one youtube video that I couldn't find testing something by himself after reading some articles about the topic found out that it is actually much more energy efficient to never even have to bother with something inaccessible when you yourself made it inaccessible compared to the constant static effort of resisting the urge of doing that currently accessible thing.

For example if you throw your phone off of a cliff (the phone is ok) you won't feel an urge to scroll through tiktok. If yiu have your phone however, you will.

DST offers a lot of customization for your gameplay and all I did was suggest gamerule option, because that stuff is pretty basic in minecraft

Why did you have to make it so weird? When it comes to creepiness I think you are the problem right now.

You can also disable rifts! does it make people "creepy" because they can't restraint themselves from giving 5 dreadstone to Charlie or a shiny to an old man?
I feel really insulted by you right now.

To be fair the rift thing is a little more complicated than that.

It gives you the options to turn them on and off.

With things like Brightshades or Acid rain I can easily see why someone would want to go into settings and turn rifts off.

The no swap thing could make sense for long term online servers or something, but it just doesn't seem like it's important at all. I totally get it's a low effort thing, but there's lots of other low effort things they could do that would have a far greater positive impact

Don't worry, I don't want to steal budget for Wickerbottom's skilltree with a setting

Now excuse me, but I need a breather

Imagine having no self control

It's a fairly redundant toggle and I doubt it will be implemented, as its effect would be felt dominantly in multiplayer, but this is downright insulting.
Players are sorta incentivized to swap characters, and actually removing the option from a game instance altogether makes players obviously less tempted.
I don't know if you actually don't understand this position or just hate the seemingly-silly suggestion. I don't think it would disrupt anything if it was added.

Are you asking for a worldgen option or?

Cause that'd be pretty sad. Imagine having no self control to the point you ask the devs to make an option to prevent using something already 100% optional.

He just went the game to be more hard by setting instead of holding himself back on purpose and that is ok

the reason why I hate exploit and bugs because I am forced to hold myself back instead of the game being hard I feel I am the one who make it hard on purpose and that is why I hate the existing of op things and exploit and other things like that and If the game has settings to make it self harder so I can go all out is why more fun then holding myself

i will be ok with every op item and bug in the game if the game has a hard mode or I can change anything that I don’t like in the world gen settings

what needs to happen is some sort of skill point reset station of some sorts were you can just reset your points there to then re use for what ever else you want without using the portal

It would be interesting to discuss the ability to reset a skill tree and at what cost. Without having to use the portal.

Especially for characters who have a ridiculous difference in efficiency depending on which path they take (ie Wolfgang)

This locks you out of the celestial champion, and the moon rift content if you don't toggle it on further.

Fine, just add an option to disable the portal parphenilla instead of the orb and call it a day.

The garbage you people spewed out of your mouths towards someone who suggested a harmless config is pungent.

Guy just suggested a config for the game, like many others, and they were met with hostility for 0 reason? Get a grip you lot.

I would love this as a multiplayer world setting just because I am tired of character swapping being uniquely viewed as "people do this to gain an advantage and it should be banned", leading to bizarre suggestions on how to balance it or make it "fair", as if some people don't swap characters because they're just bored. It would be so, so much easier to just have an on/off toggle so everyone can play how they want.

If you're playing alone on PC and suffer poor impulse control (I do as well, ESPECIALLY with Minecraft), could you maybe in the meantime use a mod to disable characters except the one you are playing as for that world? That way you can still access the skilltrees via the portal but can't swap. It won't work if you're on console obviously, but people have been asking for a toggle like this for a while and it still hasn't been implemented in any form yet unfortunately.

I only swap character after I've beat every boss and gotten all post-rift items, that's when I can play around with characters I haven't tried yet without having to create an entirely new world. Although I mostly just switch to Wilson since he's the best character
