Power Banks at Teleport Destination

Currently, the teleport destination on the second planet has a ration box to give a buffer of calories to help establish a foothold there. Since power banks are the equivalent of food for bionic dupes, there should also be a handful of power banks to allow more secure expansion in a bionic only playthrough. I would recommend spawning in a few when you build the mini-pod, just as they pop out of the printing pod when you start a new colony.

i tried sending a bionic dupe out by themselves with the teleporter to see how hard it would be, I didn't even thaw out the frozen friend. I built the crafting station, battery, and manual generator and also dug out enough metal to do so while using up ~50% of my 480kj charge.

 

I do agree that if you screw up and send a barely charged bionic then you are screwed, your bionic will run out of power before you're ready.... but.... You have the frozen friend.

Almost everyone immediately thaws out the frozen friend who is a regular organic dupe. they'll be able to eat the ration box, dig out the metal ore, build the manual generator, battery crafting station, and build the batteries to save your bionic dupe even if you royally screw up. You just need the minimum charge to walk over and initiate the thaw. And there is still plenty of food leftover for the organic dupe to then build a microbe musher and pitcher pump and make their own food.

I would agree that extra batteries should be left at the destination if there WASN'T a frozen friend. But the frozen friend is almost like a cheat, they provide the free labor needed to get going and save you from epic screwups.

If you are challenging yourself to a 100% bionic dupe run without using the frozen friend... I would argue thats YOUR self-imposed challenge. So you should be mindful and prepared of your battery charge before teleporting... or save scum if you screw it up. 

Klei already gives you a freebie by giving bionic dupes free crafting station research. I was surprised myself when they spawned in and i got the message. So i think you're already helped plenty.

So i'm going to lean toward NOT putting extra batteries with the teleporter. You can usually make the crafting station with 50% charge left. And the frozen friend saves your ass even if you royally screw up. And if you choose a self-imposed challenge, it's not too hard to be mindful of your charge.

Nothing forces you to do it in a single trip either. You can send a bionic, do some work start preparing for recharge etc., then send it back if its about to run out of battery, wait for the teleporter cool down, and repeat.
