Should the slingshot be closer to melee dpm? If yes why? If no why?

Interestingly crystal deerclops is a good example of a threat like this as well though I do wonder if they'll go back to some older pre rift bosses to implement something similar as well as it would be a shame for most of the ranged threats to be post rift.

Is weird how the made a perfect design to counter ranged atacks for a boss but all of the new mobs are destroyed without a chance of fighting back... everytime i see the ink trio or BS being killed from distance i lose faith in the game and want to close it and go play something else

I wouldn't go that far but it is something that'll probably have to be addressed as even the Willow's alignment flames and the gloomerang make quick work of these threats.

As it stands, I think Walter is in a very good spot right now. He's not as absurd as other characters pre-skill tree. But he never needed to be, he just needed (most of) his problems fixed. Which the skill tree did with flying colors.

I dont disagree with that, If the skill tree were to go live tomorrow I couldnt be happier about the slingshot, for me its currently the most versatile and useful weapon in the entire game, specially for aoe, and its current dps I would say is pretty big with the cursed + horror combo. But my worry is more in like, the general perception, I dont think his playrate will increase other than by a small number, mostly because of this weird perception that Walter is supposed to be "only damage" and that if he isnt hitting harder than a fkin lvl 3 shadow mauler then hes still "the trashy ranged".

And my guess is that Youtube videos of Walter killing bosses or dps comparisons made a lot of harm in that sense, almost all the comments in those videos are "damn, Walter doesnt even have to kite yet he still takes 8 minutes to kill a bq??? ¿where skill tree??",  "be happy Walter players, you can now kill a dragonfly in 8 months rather than the previous 9 months!1!!1!" or "all this and a hambat is still better", **** like that.

But maybe its just me being overly anxious, perhaps people only see the character that way because pre-skill tree yeah he was pretty much only damage, but it could be the case that after beta goes live people will see all the insane amount of utility Walter has now and see him in a different light, idk

Yeah to be fair most of what Walter got wasn't even directly showcased by youtubers at least from what I saw with most people only dropping their impressesion on the very first build which also probably didn't help the perception. Still he probably won't go over too well regardless since most of his more noticeable upgrades require players to challenge harder content though you can get the scrappy slingshot without hitting the ruins if you get lucky with wire rng on the surface.
