Reworking the Dark Petals Line

Dark Petals I:

  • Evil Flowers hold no fear for Wendy
  • She can purify dark Petals into Mourning Glory
  • She can purify dark Petals into Petals

Dark Petals II:

  • Abigail teaches Wendy to make a shroud of flowers to wear
  • Chest slot Item gives Abigail 60% armor

Dark  Influence:

  • Wendy  can craft the Dark Sweeper, a variant of the clean sweeper that inflicts haunt effects (4 dark petals, 1 twig, 10 uses).

 

Regular petals are abundant, so purifying them into something Wendy actually struggles to obtain (Mourning Glory) makes sense.

The current iteration of the flower shroud has little application, as Abigail usually dies quickly anyway. The ability to give Abigail armour smooths out the difficulty curve for Wendy, while having its own set of drawbacks in preventing the use of any Chest slot item such as backpacks, Magilumi or armour.

Without haunting, Dark petals are a pain to obtain in DST, so there should be a more convenient way to obtain it if its needed for the shroud of flowers, and inflicting haunt on objects should give Wendy some much needed utility out of combat. Haunt is something currently usable by anyone, but is niche due to needing to... y'know... die. So giving Wendy a more accessible version wouldn't be OP, while still giving her a more unique identity among the cast.

Edit: Ah apparently decorating graves gives dark Petals, that does help in some aspects, but I still think reworking this skill line is important to make dark petals more useful for Wendy.

I would prefer if part of abi's wounds are transfer to wendy so you make her last longer at the cost of receiving damage. It fits the 'twins with a special connection' them they wanted to deliver in her 1st dst refresh

LOL, yeah, I edited that into my post immediately before you replied.  I still think the line needs rwework, but it def significantly improves the grave skill line, which I was worried about as spawning neutral ghosts you can't interact with wasn't the most enticing basis for a skill line. That effect just needs to make sure that mass producing dark petals is a usefull skill for Wendy.

Nice idea! Either in this way or by adding a command to make abigail haunt the desire objetive

That could work also, it's just much more difficult to balance, as Abigail takes double damage from most attacks and Wendy is already losing out on armour by consuming the chest slot.

Yeah, the reason I suggested a dedicated craft is so to add an additional use to dark Petals. if this rework was implemented, Nightmare Fuel, Mourning Glory and Flower Shrouds would be the main uses for Dark Petals, which is a good selection, but could use improvements.

It can be a portion. For example, instead of your suggested 60%armor,  make abi get 60% of the damage (there can be a non 1 hit limitation)

Oooooo! I would adore a way to inflict haunt effects without actually dying. I always found it a bit unfortunate you have to die to get value out of the haunt effects (especially when there are really good ones), so a way to force it without dying would be nice!

That could work, overall I'm not to fussed either way as long as it increases abigail's surivability.

Wendy being able to inflict Haunt is the one aspect of her skill tree I've felt is 100% necessary since I heard it. It's thematically perfect, not too OP, and gives a whole new dimension to her utility. Even if it's not part of the dark petals line, I need it to be added in some aspect.

Because Wendy already has a passive method to gain Dark Flowers - Gravestones.
