Is there anyway to escape the wrathful rabbit king?

Recommended Posts

Honestly, I haven't actually properly played the game in a while because I've been focusing on mod developing and bug reporting, but if I knew the Rabbit King gets sorta permanently leashed to a target unless they literally despawn, I would've brought it up, or report it if it didn't seem intentional.

That aside? There is one way that the Rabbit King can be introduced to players that haven't tried interacting with rabbit holes, the Fortuitous Rabbit. They have a very low chance to replace a rabbit whenever they spawn (1% from rabbit holes, 10% from an earthquake), they can be chased and interacted with (no need for speed bonuses, those just make it faster), and this will instantly replace said rabbit with the rabbit king. Player characters will talk when one spawns, as a player has to be close as well for them to spawn even after the roll succeeds.

Obviously, catching them while carrying meat will result in instantly angering the king, so that's still a thing in this case.

I also agree that the rabbit king naughtiness mechanic sounds especially problematic if it's not consistent enough (regarding the bit about loading the world/going from shard to shard). Though what'd be nice regardless is having some sort of indication to warn the player (probably sound too, could literally just be some unique ground rumble or something with some minor camera shake, only playing if there's valid ground for it to play, like how there needs to be valid ground for the king to spawn).

Are you an official beta tester of the team?

Oh no I'm not, I wish though! I just meant like mentioning it in a thread, or even this one a while back. I've just been distracted with more apparent issues/bugs and stuff I'm developing.

I mean it’s like Klei can’t make up their mind where they want the difficulty curve of their game to firmly sit.

And I can provide a whole backlog mess of examples where and how this went wrong but I’ll just use Bunny Stew as the best example.

Bunny Stew AND Bunny Earmuffs no prototyping crafting was added to the game as a cheap new food dish & source of warmth for newbie players to easily restore health (all you need is 1 small meat morsel and 3 ice) and stay warm which would have made the first serious challenges for newbies (Deerclops & Winter Freezing) easier because they have a reliable way to stay warm & heal to fight her (since Ice spawns EVERYWHERE during this time) However.. The Rabbit King (Evil Version) changes all that, because not only does the chances of it spawning go up with each rabbit kill, but there’s a very high likelihood the player who needed to kill those rabbits for morsels to heal and fight Deerclops will be carrying morsels or stews on them when the rabbit spawns and becomes insta- Hulk Smash mode.

TL:DR- Rabbit King is a Noob Trap.

Now let me bust a bit deeper into this, all this is going to do (or at least was the case for me anyway..) was instead of relying on Bunnies for Small Meat Morsels to craft my Bunny Stews I instead relied on Birds. if your playing as Wolfgang you can literally toss dumbells at two birds at once for easy morsel collecting and skip the whole hidden rabbit naughtiness meter and Bugs Bunny boss spawn, (Wigfrids Elden spear dash is also highly effective at bird killing)

So if Rabbit King (Evil version) was added to the game as a means of discouraging the crafting of bunnyear muffs or bunny stews, His entire design is to troll newer players who the addition of early earmuffs and stews were added for.

Now then, one more thing…. On PC it might be some super secret prompt that you have to discover to figure out you can put carrots into a rabbit hole to get him to spawn in the first place, but on Xbox… when you walk close to a hole an on screen prompt to “give” to the hole will pop up, and anyone who has played DS or DST prior to this “Give” feature being added to the game, will see said new interactions and be like “Huh, that’s new I’m just going to shove food over in here..”

(10 carrots later they deeply regret that decision)

Which leads me to the final bullet point: If your NOT reading these forums or looking information up on a Wiki, your knowledge comes from watching other players..

And how’s a noob going to know the difference between “cool rabbit horn storage stash” & “give things to rabbit hole”?

It's really nice to see you again, excellent feedback as always Mike - I think your feedback is valid and Klei need to do better at understanding their game, spot on with your takes! 100% agree!
