To Boss or Not to Boss

Recommended Posts

i think every recently introduced boss is boring because therye all one-dimensional. Once you learn how to deal with their attacks there isnt anything else to learn. They become a pinata for whatever items they drop.

As much as people hate bee queen and ancient fuelweaver, they are good examples of bosses that actually encourage you to use something more complex. Bosses like celestial champion or the lunar mutants get praised for having a simple fight, but that simplicity makes them really bland in the long run. I think more bosses could be fun, but they should try to make them weird and unintuitive while leaving room for multiple strategies to exist.

I think what Klei needs to really focus on right now is updating the caves, not adding more bosses. There could be more bosses in the caves, but that's not what they need the most - they need changes to generation (like bringing back the bigger DS ruins that have unique turf with more hazards and loot instead of empty bridges) and more variety/unique stuff in the cave biomes.

To add to this, the thing that makes CC and the lunar mutants lack the tension of things like BQ, FW and even DF is the fact you can leave the fight at any time and come back.

Imagine if you could just run away from bee queen whenever you're about to lose, go back to base, get more resources and rejoin to finish her off.

As for the thread, I personally would prefer that instead of adding new bosses, they give us "misery toadstool" options for the existing ones as well as focus on making content that can be accessed on day 1 instead of all the stuff that's locked behind rifts.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I'd totally be down for more bosses. Or boss. I guess more but not every update more. There's something to be said about making the main draw of updates be new bosses to fight, a mechanic not even everyone engages in, and especially in places not everyone visits (Scrappy Werepig, Depth Worm Boss, Rift Content, etc.), so I think what I'd love to see newer bosses be, like the person above me said (I think it sends a notification to them if I quote), content which is far more available, and in my opinion, approachable (as in choosing if you want to fight them and reap the rewards). I've seen some in this thread describing their relationship with bosses as being a "pinata", and I would personally want more future bosses to play into this design, being tough nuts to crack which reward a step up in power (or just some nice resources) if you've got the guts or smarts to take them on. Basically, please put a phase regenerating giant tentacle I can occasionally cut down to size (but not death! Or maybe if the drops are better on kill than clearing phases) in the middle of the swamp please. Sorry for the tentacle tangent, but tldr, I want more bosses or another boss that acts like a commodity!

To me even though a lot of people hate bosses like the bee queen to me the bee queen is one of the best bosses in the game because it's a special boss to me because it's always forcing me to deal with her in different ways other then fighting her normally and I actually went more bosses like the bee queen and AFW then bosses like the CC
