Will Don't Starve Together Ever Get Dedicated Servers on Xbox?

Recommended Posts

So just a quick question Don’t Starve Together has had dedicated servers on PC for years, but back when the Xbox version was released, it wasn't possible due to limitations on Xbox

However, with many games now supporting dedicated servers on Xbox, has there been any news or plans to bring dedicated servers to the Xbox version of Don’t Starve Together?

I also understand we may never get mods or any quality of life stuff like the pc version has but can we not run a normal dedicated server ?

Would love to know if this is on the radar for future updates and would be amazing to have the option to run a dedicated server.

I doubt it very much.
If I'm not mistaken, Xbox is like one of the least played platforms for this game no?
Playstation has a few dedicated servers(?) for more than one reason I'm sure, maybe one of those being the amount of players on there.
Now I'm wondering about the Nintendo numbers or if even they have any dedicated servers (I'd be really surprised if so).

Sony likely paid for exclusive features, so most likely we will never get them.

But I wish Klei would at the very least update the server settings so we can no longer toggle something that’s never existed in the first place.

I didn’t realise PlayStation had dedicated servers, so that’s news to me!

I can see the player count being a factor, but. At the same time , quite a few people have stopped playing because they lost their worlds —I almost quit for the same reason but kept going back not sure if this is an issue across all platforms.

But if dedicated servers were implemented for Xbox, it could really change the experience for the platform it would give players more of a community feel and might keep people coming back to see worlds progress

i just hope it’s isn’t the works and becomes possible someday as I’m sure a lot of others would

It’s unlikely.. when I asked the devs about it some years back I was told that it would require them to have to pay for more servers costing them development time & resource costs that could be put towards other things like game content updates.

I have since then just accepted that Xbox will never get them, as it seems Sony in usual Sony fashion paid for exclusive deals & features. I don’t even know if Nintendo Switch has them or not but if it does, it would be awfully strange to exclude Xbox.
