How about Gorge cooking and dishes with Warly's skilltree?

Recommended Posts

The whole system and dishes are so well made. The system is interesting, makes cooking not just a sitting game and you can ruin your dish, and the dishes' textures are absolutely amazing.

It would be a shame for all of this to go to waste, the assets can be easily reused for content. Well, maybe not the cooking sets, because they don't fit the materials the survivors have, but at least the dishes.

Warly could get a perk that would allow him to make multiple dishes using the same amount of ingredients inside an oven/grill/cookpot, etc. incentivizng a cook to, well... cook.

Maybe we could also get a way to evaporate seawater using cookpots, leaving salt behind for seasoning? Only Warly would be able to do that I guess!

Instead of adding new cooking stations for Warly himself, he could be able to craft new cookpots or dishes needed to cook, allowing him to put more ingredients inside and creating unique recipes.

I wonder if locking at least half of Gorge dishes behind Warly's unique cooking utensils would be a good move. I can't quite tell. But it would give Klei a lot of potential to make unique effects for the dishes only Warly can make by using more than 4 ingredients...

There is so much food in the game, and a lot of food ingredients don't even have their own respective dishes they need to be used in. That could be solved with this also.

Edit: It would also make Warly's downside - something that a lot of players find too annoying to bother playing him actually more interesting to manage, because of the variety of dishes and their respective stats/effects.

In the last discussion I participated in about Warly's skill tree, I think I suggested something similar, but instead of locking stuff behind Warly, we could just make it so that he does it better. He'd have portable versions of all the Gorge cooking stations and they'd cook things faster, but everyone else gets the stationary, slower versions. That's the theme I think they should follow with his skill tree: being a chef means he's better at cooking. So, maybe he can also get some ingredients back when putting some stuff into a cooking station - a morsel for every large meat, for example, or one berry back for every two used, or something along those lines. It'd represent his skills as a chef allowing him to waste less when preparing a dish.

I for sure would like more than having to constantly stick to the Crock Pot, or finally getting direct upgrades to it. As cooking doesn't see any improvement so far during the game progression (surprisingly, you'd expect a game with such a cornerstone as its title referencing food would push it further).

But of all things, personally, I would prefer something else than a port of Gorge cooking system or its recipe categories, Warly specific or not. I liked Gorge (and Forge) but I'd rather have those events' content to stay where they are, even if I kinda wish they were more playable for everyone than being left to mods (because dear console players can't have it).

We only see suggestions of players asking for Gorge cooking so often, and others even ask for more like the whole Gorge biomes to make their way into the Constant... maybe I'm the only one to think it but I find all of this quite an unappealing idea. I'm not saying they weren't fun mechanism, or ugly places. It was nice. But I don't look forward the mechanisms and esthetic of a seasonal event to illustrate advanced / Warly's own cooking. I don't find this representative of DST gameplay outside of a timed, task completion minigame.

I'm sure we can have something amazing but totally new, that would be much more refreshing... well if we do get anything, otherwise this would be at the very best a consolation prize.

Well, the thing I want the most is making cooking more diverse, and adding more dishes (Gorge dishes already have their beautiful textures drawn, so it would not be a lot of work to add all of them, saving Klei so much work that it makes it more possible they would add it).

What would you think about Klei doing something else, more creative, about cooking, but with Gorge recipes like the Carrot Cake / Cheese Cake / Mac n' Cheese added?
