New Great worm loot is nice and better than before but it is still in need of some tunning

Recommended Posts

For those unaware the great worm got two changes last update:

A setting has been added so you can make the great worm not spawn at all, make it spawn sometimes, and make it spawn always. And new loot has been added to it (Credits to Maxil20 on discord for posting this info):

local loottable = {
        boneshard = 25,
        rocks = 20,
        flint = 15,
        nitre = 15,
        monstermeat = 15,
        goldnugget = 4,
        slurtle_shellpieces = 2,
        tentaclespots = 2,
        lightbulb = 2,
        wormlight = 2,
        guano = 2,
        redgem = 2,
        bluegem = 2,
        purplegem = 2,
        trinket_17 = 1,
        trinket_12 = 1,
        orangegem = 1,
        yellowgem = 1,
        greengem = 1,
        thulecite = 1,
        fossil_piece = 1,
    }

Most notorious adition from this list is the inclusion of fossils finally making them renewable, after some testing it seems fossils are not guranteed and great worms are able to to drop between 0-2 most of the times. Since fossils are no longer capable of been used to make barriers for mobs, they are just a decorative item so i dont see why the worm drop so little, i think it would be fair to make the worm drop 16 fossils consistently so you got to do 2 complete skeletons per big worm kill.

I still think the worm needs some unique loot on the basis that no other mob in the game presents this amount of challenge without a fitting reward for it, and again fossils are nice but they are mostly decoration, however it would be a lie to say the worm loot isnt nice at the moment, problem really being that the drop for the worm asks to be a little bit more than nice.

The greatest problem with the worm still is its destruction, not only from the point of a megabaser, but in general the worm its to destructive to the caves, not been to prevent the worm destroying none renewable resources like cave spiders and slurtles its a big deal. By it´s design i understand it might be a challenge to make the worm itself none destructive but i hope within this beta we can get a way to prevent it, either giving us the tools to easily get to a save heaven where we can fight away from our builts or finding the way to make the worm been able to spawn anywhere without threatening the base.

I have a crazy suggestion that I think would be really cute, gross.. but cute. And also fitting.

what if the giant worm dropped a new resource, like maybe a Cacoon embryo?

What does it do?? Well.. gameplay wise it functions similar to the Bootleg whirlpools.

But all the animations show you the player crawl over into a protective cacoon pod and then the giant worm (just it’s mouth) pops up to “eat” you, and you safely travel through its digestive system to “teleport” where your wanting to be after being dropped out its Worm butt.

It’s weird, but DST gets its charm from being a weird game. <3

I really wish we could have walls used as barriers against mobs than pretend that living room furniture is the true deterrent from anything that hates home improvements. I like that thee game is silly about this but also mildly mad that now when we got mechanics that need some sorts of walls or farms that need barriers we can't use walls normally and instead we just plop tables everywhere.

Eh they’ll probably patch that eventually so the tables have breaking animations, you can bet if they change giants to “trample” this’ll be on the list somewhere.

just adjusting hitboxes is fine, but reworking walls is a different thing

Deja vu:

I used to think it should drop a Drill that could dig a wormhole, but it's obviously not as good an idea as that.
