The question of Mimics

Frankly, for the """""challenge""""" and """"difficulty""""" they bring on the game, they should be pre-rift, as a costant environmental danger of the Ruins (not linked to the nightmare cycle) perfect for punishing new players on leaving tons of garbage on the floor. Or even better, mimics could be a sanity rework, and be linked, as a chance, to the players sanity!

That's crazy to me then. I had so much garbage lying around the entrance and the mimics never appeared. I saw a weird circle shaped shadow having a spasm on the floor near a tentipillar once, but then it just gave me nightmare fuel when I stepped on it. Guess it was after a tentacle spike but I thought it was just glitched nightmare fuel.

Yep. That was the Mimic. That's what they look like.

Just kinda... black little airbush shadows.

As of this most recent beta update, it seems there is a bug where they are to spawn whenever any rift is open rather then just the shadow ones, but I had them spawn in under cover of darkness period. I guess they can't spawn in if its a full moon, I tend to keep moonstorms active so don't bother me too much, but underground where they are supposed to be they are barely a hassle at all.

The mob itself could probably stand to be reworked into something else as at the moment they are far too low impact. I bested a shadow because I put a tool in a chest, not great really, I loved the creativity of the mimic I just think it should mimic something else if possible.
