I think your honestly just to stuck on the game not changing, but even though I can’t fight this particular mob due to it being in a Beta Phase I can tell you what I personally would have developed it for.

Over the years Klei has been making the game more accessible to solo players by lessening the amount of On-Screen Threats in exchange for a larger threat that’s a bit more deadly and has a little more health.

Aka instead of a hound wave of 20 hounds, you get a Varglet.

They did the same with Caves with the new Giant Worm (regardless of how you feel about it right now, it’s the intent behind it.)

When it comes to shadow creatures, I imagine it would be 1000x easier to fight this Big Boi then it is to try and dodge and kite 3 crawling horrors and 3 Terrorbeaks all simultaneously at once.

First off, no. I like the game changing. Thus I like them more in caves and ruins cause that's where most shadow dangers are at.

Less on screen threats you mean by hound waves reduced, and seasonal bosses more spread out? Cause Varglet is a great addition cause houndwaves were basically coming EVERY DAMN 7 DAYS or so and it was too annoying because we needed to be always not far from traps instead of having some time to relax, build or mess around. For seasonal bosses they did good rework, practically only deerclops will come if bear is alive, and mooses have their dedicated seasonal areas that keeps them where they probably should be before we come to eat them.

I like giant worm for variety for worms, since I don't live in caves usually it's a fun addition to have and makes me need to plan out that one time a season attack from them in bigger consideration of base defense/expecting an incoming lootbox we call the worm now.

Lurker is an actual major threat now in ruins for it's unique fight mechanics. It was somewhat manageable to beat terror and crawler horde that comes after but third new addition practically already makes you consider avoiding fighting them at most costs.

I can understand if that were in the caves themselves, but in surface it would be too much for newer players I'm afraid. We need to keep some balance between things like going to caves where we actively SEEK OUT danger for the sake of big loot, while on surface it's less of that and just managing survival overall.

If you're in caves with 0 sanity sure that could work for an enemy, as many wouldn't go down there and it IS a tough enemy to fight which imo should stay below than on the surface just to not put too much stress on other players.

It'd only be so fair to add some of that 'difficulty' back after so many updates designed strictly around making characters better.

A change like this will only push new players to learn more about sanity faster when they keep dying to it.

Anyways, I think adding something as small as one more mob to sanity would bring a lot more interest in the game back for me, personally.

Sanity is one of the coolest concepts and I wish it was more expanded upon.

Bro what the Frick it quoted you twice

I'll fix it when I'm not on mobile

I don't think you're understanding the full picture, I feel you're imagining that other shadow creatures wouldn't spawn and this would replace it. Do you think you could manage a terrorbeak and this Mike?

Oh I know how it works, I watch twitch streams of folks playing with it in beta.

Well let me rephrase that- I try to watch twitch streams of “hopefully legit players” who aren’t just using Console Commands to spawn in what they want.

And I don’t care how it currently functions, betas are generally meant as a means of testing out new content and giving feedback on how to improve or better implement it.

With that said I feel like these COULD replace the larger groups of shadow creatures, plus- it would be very nice for the now 10 year old game to get some new sanity creatures that are a threat throughout all areas of gameplay.
