Shadow set could use some general “tools” in its crafts

Recommended Posts

Short ish-post:

One of the reasons brightshade gear is so nice is the brughtshade smasher/shoevel. While these aren’t revolutionary (these are literally just existing tools but Better), they are a massive aid in terms of quality of life. I feel like the shadow side not having these is really unfortunate, even if items like the reaper/axe do have some tool functions in addition to being weapons.

I feel it would be nice if the shadow side had some general multipurpose tools. It would go a long way into helping use shadow items for a variety of purposes and would overall be greatly appreciated.

When the actual hell Klei gonna add a better bug net man, that's all I wanted for this update.

Your Idea for a all in one net/trap/etc is good, and should come into the game in some form, but I have to ask why this is the hill you're choosing to die on?

It just seems like such a minor thing to get hung up over in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah I agree. The thing is, even if you go for the shadow stuff, you still need BS smasher and shoevel. Which means that you need to give up another inventory slot for a second repair kit.

But I don't think they can add a new set of shadow tools without them feeling same with BS stuff. You can clearly see klei is trying to avoid this by making a unique tool/weapon (Maul and Reaper) instead of just adding a shadow Pick/Axe/Shovel etc.

One Idea I had(which is similar to Chirsg's one) is turning maul into a less efficient multi-tool. It' could work like normal tools and take increased damage from breaking stuff but it would at least partially solve the inventory issues that we face right now.

oh really? no one even use the hoe part of the brightshade shoevel regularly yet it was still there. why shouldn't I feel the need to request for a better bug net? Having 10 uses only is stupid, and especially much lesser if you "accidentally" do a force attack while having a bug net equipped.

Again, I think it's a good idea, so creating a thread in the beta to suggest it is a good thing. But i'm pretty sure I've seen you in about a dozen threads saying something along the lines of "this update is terrible because no bug net," which just seems a bit much to me. Like:

Now to be completely fair you may be saying this in Jest, but it's kinda difficult to tell through just text.

Why are you criticizing a suggestion? That's so bizarre, man. This is the same way we lost void walking. People getting involved in situations that had nothing to do with them.

There's a lot to hate about this update. Having the shadow side getting neglected in utility is probably icing on the cake for Anis. Especially in the form of neglecting such a basic tool that has utility later on in a significant way.

I knew this update was going to be a can of worms. LITERALLY

So real.

Like it is a slog to keep making bug nets, even in late-game and especially for farming killing Celestial Champion for those elastispacers or shards for other lunar items/glowcaps.

To be honest, we should just stop putting more weapons and start adding more utility tools. Combining bug net and freshwater fishing rod barely makes sense on paper, but those two items share a similarity in which they eat thru a lot of silks yet having low number of uses. So what's the harm for asking for a combo tool with those?

Criticizing a suggestion... Right...

Why do you even need to attack someone's motives? This is where it starts. You did. "Why do you choose to die on this hill?"

Like, what else is there? We have functional garbage that replaced voidwalking, not even a contingency expressed in the form of stone bridges, but flimsy trash rotten termite infested plank bridges that get demolished as soon as an itty bitty widdle wabbit falls on it because the earth decided to shake a little bit.

Earthquakeproof engineering is a thing, yet we get such ill made bridges in spite of that.

So yeah, you criticizing a suggestion based of someone's motive is something you have done and should be aware of in the face of the update going forward.

This is like the 5th non-bridge thread that ended up spiraling into a false and misleading voidwalking rant.

Please just don't do that? I get it you're upset but this isn't a way to go about it.

People are allowed to ask others why they're keen on a feature being added (the fishing rod and bug net *are* unnecessary and tedious to use and replace after a point but Anis does overdo it sometimes, bonus points for that! He likes the game and wants it to prosper.)

Shutting down someone asking why isn't helpful at all though, imo

No, I never criticized the suggestion, I questioned why they valued that it so highly that they chose to include it in about half a dozen separate posts. AFAIK, it's the only thought they've shared on the beta.  "Die on this hill" is hyperbole, but it's a genuine question about why a single aspect that hasn't really been discussed up until now is the only metric of the success of the update.

I'm not saying "Why do you care so much about it, shut up >:|"

I'm saying "You are obviously being really passionate about this one thing, and I'm curious about why this makes or breaks an update for you, for what I perceive as QOL"

That was what I was saying in the original comment.

...

Also, WHY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT BRIDGES HERE, This was a conversation about opportunities for new tools, not the death of an old mechanic. I never brought up bridges,  Anis didn't bring up bridges, the OP didn't bring up bridges, SO WHY ARE THEY PART OF THE CONVERSATION NOW???

There are multiple existing topics about bridges. Talk about the bridges there, or in the main threads.

If  Anis wants an upgraded bug net, make a suggestion post on the beta blog about it, that's basically all I was saying. Why make multiple informal comments that are unlikely to be seen, when they could create a dedicated thread for it which would have more visibility & discussion about it.
