This is inspired by WaokeVale (Eggsterminator)'s post! But also, I've made this post both on Twitter and Tumblr a while ago, and I've decided to also post here! (Of course, this will be much simpler and easier to explain than Wormwood's situation).

I've seen that some people are confused if Wes is an adult or a kid (and people causing some fight over it too LOL) so I made this post to make it clear!

Is Wes a kid? The short answer is No.

Long answer:

The only characters with confirmed ages are Wilson, Willow and Wendy (see below). The other characters have no confirmed ages.

However, you can analyze the character's dialogues, or even, their animated short and lore to tell about their ages. For example, you can tell Webber, Wurt and Walter are kids by their dialogues, and by other characters dialogues about them.

Examples below, you can see that other characters call them "spiderchild", "boy", "young lady", "little one" and etc. There are more examples on other character's dialogues, but I will just show a few!

In Wes's case, it's a bit hard to tell, because he has no dialogues of his own (except the one from Charlie's stage, that doesn't tell much about himself), but you can analyze other character's quotes about him.

You can see that he's always referred to as a "man", and the other characters treat him as such.

Another funny observation, but in Wolfgang's dialogues, he shows that he's afraid of every kid in a certain way (he's afraid of Wendy because she's creepy, afraid of Webber and Wurt because they're monsters, and of Walter because he tells scary stories), he doesn't seem to be scared of Wes, however, as you can tell above.

Other character who has a different behavior with the children is Wortox, he's a bit nicer to the kids. Whenever they die, he assures them he won't eat their soul.

With Wes, however, his behavior is a little bit different:

Now, when people tell Wes is a kid, they usually comment on his appearence, size, and manneirisms.

His appearence could be explained by his "baby face", like his "Lover" describes. He could simply be a man with delicate or feminine features, or his makeup helps him look younger. Besides, the artstyle of Don't Starve don't tell much about his size, it's the same as every character (with the exception of Maxwell and buff Wolfgang, that are very clearly taller).

About his personality, people could argue he acts way too "childish", since he likes balloons, and acts silly in general. But considering he's a mime/clown, that is normal for him, acting silly and make balloons is his profession, and he's very dedicated to it. Besides, there's nothing wrong with an adult acting "childish", that doesn't make them less of an adult.

I could also mention on how he works as a street performer, and seems to be living by himself, but maybe in the 1920s, it was normal for young boys to work, so I don't find that a good argument. Still, I hope that everything I presented here was convincent enough! If you don't agree with anything, or want to add something, feel free to comment!

Thanks you summed up almost everything that makes me think always think of him as an adult.

I also want to add that when people say he is a child because he appears next to established children in some scenes as the only one who may be an adult (ignoring wormwood here for simplifying)

In this case I NEED to always stress that sometimes children select some adults they like or think of as different from "usual" adults or who are joining their games without 'looking down at them' or lecturing them on how 'things are done' to join their games / activities or even considering the adult as some sort of peer.

At least I was one of those kind of children that often trusted selective adults so much that I basically made no difference between them and the few friends / anyone of the handful children of the same age that didn't bully me.

And I later was this one "weird" "not annoying" adult who joined the children and spend the whole time being a part of their games and activities that most other adults would feel bored or too childish about. It probably helps I am a very small adult who still loves "childish" activities and who can easily play with child-sized toys and playgrounds without seeming too out of place. (usually people think I am a teenage age older simbling or babysitter or something)

(that was every time when my older friend took me to meet the family of her friend most of the time I came to visit)

So I can relate somewhat to people mistaking Wes for younger, but I can assure not every playful or small or younger looking person is automatically a child.
