New tool: MapsNotIncluded.org (upcoming TNI replacement)

Recommended Posts

Do you remember how I wished for a open source ToolsNotIncluded replacement last year?

This is becoming a reality now with MapsNotIncluded.org thanks to @LeCoffee:)

The project is currently in its early stages and actively seeking contributors.

It's fully open-source, with database extracts shared via Discord, making it a true community effort.

We’re unsure when Cairath will bring back TNI. It was planned for January, but she hasn’t had the time. Even if it does return, Cairath has made it clear that the code will never be open-sourced, and the database won’t be shared. This means that if the service goes down—like TNI has for over a year—it would be inaccessible to everyone. An open-source solution avoids this issue.

If you’re a developer with some spare time, please consider contributing to this TNI alternative.

Thank you for the recommendation Steps!

It really is early access at this stage, so any and all help is welcome. I'm not great at ONI, barely making it past 100 cycles, so as users, if you have any recommendations for the tool how it could help your game / what you're looking for in a map, please do get in touch. I've started this as a passion project after seeing many of my favourite YouTubers doing hard core lets plays looking for truly awful world seeds.

Current roadmap is: World Traits / DLC support / Geyser Search / Map leaderboard

At the moment really looking to see if there is enough demand out there for a tool like this to justify the workload, so any and all feedback is welcome.

Any programmers, feel free to get in touch or submit a PR.

Any gamers that would like to contribute, part of the issue is generating worlds, we have a mod to automate this but requires PCs that can run ONI continuously please get in touch if you're interested!

Everything is opensource and will be forever, I have plenty of server space presently so hosting is not a problem at present.

As a follow-up on my previous post I wanted to share an visual update on the Map Explorer.
image.png.69cb1e1d2a20fd57b047e21bf326a890.pngIt has now dynamic spacing of geysers & POIs to make better use of the available space and also displays the amount per geyser/POI type.

These changed are now live on https://stefan-oltmann.de/oni-seed-browser/ , if you want to take a look.

Does the "No POIs" mean you don't count POI structures other than vacillators, AETN and teleporters? Because all planetoids have POIs. There are terrestrial artifact POIs on all of them, Irradiated Forest (from Terrania Cluster) along with several other such asteroids have the crashed satellite POI and Tundra has the tear opener POI

Thank you for bringing this up. We discussed that and will collect more POIs like the ones you mentioned.

We're excited to share the latest progress at MapsNotIncluded.org!

The seed browser now includes several new features:

  • Search functionality for world traits and geyser outputs
  • Detailed geyser information
  • An asteroid map displaying locations of POIs and geysers
  • A starmap

Check out the new screenshots below, and explore these updates yourself at https://stefan-oltmann.de/oni-seed-browser/

I'm happy to share some updates to our seed browser :)

  • The browser now features a background image and uses transparency for a sleeker look.
  • Visual markers are now added for undesirable world traits and geysers, such as Metal Poor or the Hot Polluted Oxygen Vent, making them harder to overlook.
  • Search results are now sorted based on ratings, with seeds featuring more positive traits appearing higher on the list.
  • The geyser detail list now includes a minimap for quick overviews, eliminating the need to open the full map unless desired.
  • The big map is now interactive, providing biome and geyser details.
  • Clicking on a geyser on the map shows its details in the list, and vice versa.
  • Clicking on a biome in the list greys out all other biomes, helping you easily locate it on the map.

I couldn't use the website, it said it was taking too long to respond. I am using a Vivaldi browser.

Is it taking too long to respond to a specific search query, or for all searches in general?

I just tested a search, and even with 64,000 seeds, it completed in under a second.

I tried https://mapsnotincluded.org/map-explorer through Chrome now: "stefan-oltmann.de took a long time to respond."

That's strange, because https://mapsnotincluded.org/map-explorer loads https://stefan-oltmann.de/oni-seed-browser in an iframe.

Thanks for resurrecting the most useful tool for ONI. I am not sure if i am using it right or not but if i select two metal vulcano, like 1 aluminium 1 iron, I don't get seeds that contains both of them at the same time, but just seeds that contains 1 of them. It is by design or there is some option i am missing?

Who would want to browse 200k manually?

You can "search" 5 seeds per time without an option to see a map. Unless I need different OS to see the page, the map explorer (if it works) it doesn't work for neither Chrome nor Mozilla, only showing a "Safari not supported" message

What are you talking about?

Are you confusing the trait finder with the map explorer?

https://mapsnotincluded.org/map-explorer offers a complex search functionality with a filter that’s just like TNI had.

iOS is supported since version 18.2 - try to update your iPhone first

Did I mention iPhone anywhere?

Android isn't supported

Older versions of Chrome aren't supported either

Yes, you quoted „Safari is not supported“ which is a error message shown exclusively on iOS before v18.2 and Safari on macOS.

The message on your screenshot says something else. ;)

Android is of course supported. Try a tablet or even better a Desktop.

Are you kidding me right now...?

I don't own (or will own) an iphone, mac or tablet.

Screenshots are taken on android phone and windows 8.1 pc. If you have no idea of what you are talking about, don't make assumptions
